Zuiko 100mm f/2.8 MC adapted for Pentax K

Item Description
For your consideration is an Olympus Zuiko 100mm f/2.8, the late type with better multicoating. It was originally made for the Olympus OM mount, but here I have adapted it for the Pentax K mount. I have made no alterations to the lens itself, only to the mount, in fact it is easily converted back with only a screwdriver.

Optics are pristine, with just a little dust (which does not affect the image). Cosmetics are also in great shape, other than a small (3mm) spot of paint loss on the barrel. The aperture (which is manually operated) is clean and snappy. Focus is smooth.

The adapted mount is made from a brass M42 adapter, and several pieces of copper sheet, so it is very solid. It mounts and locks onto the camera like any other K-mount lens.

I will include the original OM mount if you want to use it on an Olympus camera.

The only internal change is a small spring added to the aperture lever. If you want to change the lens back to original condition, it can be easily removed or put back in.

The lens has great colors and very smooth bokeh. Additionally, it is very contrasty and very sharp even wide open. In fact, there is little difference between f/8 and f/2.8!

Here are some photos from the lens on my K20D. All were shot at f/2.8.

Finally a 100% center crop at infinity, wide open

i have the 100mm f2 (an INCREDIBLE lens, easily rival or surpass FA limited quality) and have been toying with the idea of adapting it for Pentax using a Leitax kit, as the mod is fully reversible.

Did you find the f2.8 lens easy enough to manually focus on your Pentax dSLR without modding/changing the focussing screen? I never had any trouble using the Zuiko on a C*non, but that was FF and with a brighter screen...

Zuikoholic,

I used the plain matte screen for a few months with a variety of mf lenses with reasonable success but I missed the split prism and microprism spot in my OM-2. Now I use a cheap plastic screen from eBay (about $30) and my hit rates are much better. My Zeiss 85/1.4 (with the Leitax adapter) is probably comparable in DOF to your 100mm f2, and I found it pretty difficult to focus on the stock screen. The image doesn't really pop into focus like it does in a microprism spot.

The Leitax is probably a good fit for more expensive lenses like your 100mm. Its definitely worth the price for a solid mount. I've been pondering buying another Leitax mount for my Zuiko 55/1.2 but haven't been able to justify the cost

thanks for the feedback!

Cheers! the 100mm f2 is one of the best lenses - of any brand - I have ever had the pleasure of using. stunning sharpness, contrast, bokeh. Breathtaking images.

and i have 12 years of manual focussing experience from before I aver picked up a dSLR, even kept doing it for a while using Zuikos on other bodies.

seems like it may well be worth it to put this beautiful glass on the K5.

Bump with another price drop to $100 USD. Really want a K5

Got the lens, unmodified in 2008, from a photog who only used it for occasional astrophotography.

neat looking lens. I've never thought about an Oly lens for the Pentax. Your images look nice.

BTW what lens was used to shoot the images of the 100 mm macro. Was it your 85 1.4? Just curious, I like the smooth OOF of the images.

good luck with the sale.

Sorry about the late reply - I used the Voigtlander 58/1.4 SLII for the images above. The 85mm won't focus close enough. And thank you for the kind words

Question for you, sir.

When you turn aperture ring, does it stop down ? if I recall, the lens is in open aperture mode until the DoF button on the lens is pressed.

It does stop down as you turn the aperture ring (meaning, no auto aperture). Removing the mount also removes the DOF preview button on the original OM mount. I have added a small spring (that can easily be removed) which keeps the aperture lever depressed.
