Item Description
This is the rarely offered Tamron (Adaptall) SP 90mm f2.5 Macro model 52B (manual focus macro). It is widely proclaimed to be the best "bang-for-the-buck" macro lens available. Selling only because I have too many macro lenses and need to pay for other purchases.

Reaches 1:2 ratio by itself and Tamron 1.4x and 2.0x converters are commonly available if you wish to get even closer. As with all Adaptall lenses, your degree of functionality depends upon the mount you put on it. Both PK (M) and PK/A mounts are available (or if you have already discovered the quality of the Tamron Adaptall lenses you probably already have some.) Third party adaptall mounts are commonly available on that infernal auction site. Tamron has 3 different Pentax compatible mounts; M42, PK and PKA: The PKA provides automatic exposure. I use the PKA versions in the Av mode on my K-x. The PK or m42 versions can be used in "green button mode" on your Pentax DSLR.

This lens is built like a tank and many call it the sharpest lens in their arsenal. This one accepts 49mm filters or hoods and shows some cosmetic signs of use, mostly around the oversized front edge. (Filter screws not affected). Optically and mechanically excellent. Snappy aperture blades free from oil. Focus ring is very smooth.

A commenter in a PF thread on macros said: "add another +1 to Tamron SP 90/2.5 (model 52B or 52BB), a lens designed specifically for your needs as a portrait and macro lens. In my experience, the Tammy has slightly better IQ than the M42 S-M-C Macro-Takumar 100/4 and the Bellows-Takumar 100/4, at magnifications of 1:2 or less -- I have not compared the lenses at higher magnifications. In my experience the Tamron 90/2.5 does pretty well for portraits, not quite the IQ of the M42 S-M-C 85/1.8, but compares favorably."
