I would have jumped on it if I hadn't picked one up locally just a couple weeks ago.

Now I have both F and FA version.
I like them both, so I'm hard pressed to give personal preference of one over another.

Generally collectors are willing to pay up a little more for an F version lens of the same optical formula.

I had never seen this lens on sale until now. Some of the F series lenses are going rare and rare. Pentax 50mm/100mm F2.8 Macro, 85mm/135mm F2.8, 300mm/600mm all are in my dream list.

I think this is another way of saying that the garrish styling was a marketing flop so Pentax got rid of the red/orange large lettering. I bought an F model 50mm a decade ago on ebay because it was cheaper than the FA models. It doesn't have the 'buttons' for manual focus and focus range limiting that some of the newer macro lenses have. It was my macro of choice when I relied on an AF080C ring flash, but this summer I bought
the new AF160C, and it has the horsepower to support a 100mm macro and seems to handle the exposures better with the targets further away so I am drifting to using a 100.
