I've owned this Sigma lens for ~6 months and have had some great results with it. This has been my favorite lens when out shooting wildlife.
The lens is in near perfect condition. The body shows no marks at all. The only marks I can see are some very slight rub marks on the outside of the hood which are barely noticeable. The glass is very clean with only a couple very minor dust specs inside the front element that does not affect image quality at all. The mount and contacts are all clean. I bought this lens used ~6 months ago and it shows very little signs of use at all.
I feel this is a very good copy of this lens. I've had nothing but great results with it. In fact, I bought a brand new Sigma 150-500 a couple months ago to see if I would gain any image quality - I ended up returning the 150-500 because I actually was getting better results with this 170-500.
Images shot @500mm wide open are quite acceptable. As found in the reviews with this lens, it really starts to shine if you back off from 500mm a little bit, and stop it down a stop or two. I've used it primarily on a tripod, but has actually surprised me with some hand held shots in good light.

I agree with all that was said about this lens. As with any long lens, some technique needs to be learned to get the best out of it. I've enjoyed learning this lens and have had great success with it. The only reason I am selling is because I made the big jump to a faster lens - the Tamron SP300 2.8.
