Item Description

Komine made this lens for Vivitar and it's as good as you'd expect. It focuses down to 0.215 meters/about 8" by itself. A very deeply recessed front element makes a hood unnecessary. It isn't as long or as heavy as either 90mm, and having f2.8 is useful for general photos. It uses a 62mm filter.

I noticed two drawbacks. It only stops down to f16 which can limit the depth of field, possibly a problem at higher magnifications. And the A/M switch doesn't stick out like a Takumar, so it's harder to set to A, focus wide open, then switch to M, meter and shoot. It might be something that takes practice. Besides that, the lens is very nice to use. The weight difference improves the handling a lot over a 90mm, allowing more casual shooting. I did not need more depth of field. The lens doesn't extend as far as a 90mm 1:1 macro either, so it is less likely to interfere with a flash. I could use the camera's popup flash sometimes, though it always fires at full power.

The glass has no scratches, haze, fungus or marks. The aperture blades are snappy and oil-free. The A/M switch and stop-down pin work properly. The focus is consistent through its range. Focus effort is medium and very nice. Generic caps are included. An album of lens photos is here.

I'm also including a set of Vivitar AT-1 extension tubes in M42 mount, These have stop-down pins for M42 camera auto use. It's a set of 36mm, 20mm and 12mm. They have a little case and a rear cap but no front cap.

Here's a size comparison with the other macros I'm selling. The Vivitar is just a bit shorter than the Tamron, but smaller, deeper elements make it less front-heavy. It's only 300 grams, two thirds the Tamron's weight:
