I recently acquired this lens used. I've gone out on three outings with just this lens, and I've been pretty happy with the results.

Hi!

Is it much better than 18-55 from the K10d kit?

Hi stresless,
I have had this lens in the past and I'm thinking about getting it again. It is much better than the kit 18-55. The kit is a good cheap lens but it's not as sharp and its aperture is 3.5 on the wide (18mm) and 5.6 on the tele (55mm). I don't know what the aperture value for 17-70 is at 55mm, but it must be at least 4.5 or possibly wider. The 17-70 is much sharper and it gets pretty good macros as well. It's 1:2.3 macro ratio, that means that if the macro subject has a length of 2.3 x sensor length, the subject will fill the sensor, i.e. it will fill the screen, whatever the camera's resolution is (say 3000 x 2000 on a 6MP camera). APS-C sensor size is 3624 mm. 1:1 would mean something the size of sensor (3624 mm) will completely fill the sensor, so a 3624 mm subject will show up as 3000 x 2000 on a 6MP camera.

In a word, YES. (assuming YOU are able to tell the difference in quality)

A few inquiries, but still available.

I will check the build in flash.

Don't know about warranty. The warranty card is blank and I don't have the original bill of sale.
I did service another Sigma (10-20mm for misalignment) in the past and Sigma's service (Genco ?) did not charge me anything even though I did not have a bill of sale. I find Sigma service exceptional (at least in Toronto).
could you please provide the serial number of the lens?

I works surprisingly well. There is no shadow from 21mm up if shooting at around 1m distance and from 19mm up at 2m distance or more to the subject. The shadow (if present) is around 5% of the frame at the bottom centre - easily croppable out of most pictures. This applies to K20D. For other cameras results may vary.[COLOR="Silver"]
