Item Description
Here I have a beautifully kept Sigma 170-500mm f5 - f6.3 lens for Pentax mount.
I am a stickler for sharpness in a lens (I mostly use good primes) and yes it has been said that this lens is not the sharpest but I don't find that at all - I actually really like this lens and am in fact ONLY selling it because I purchased a bulk lot that has another one of these in it. I am not sure if this is the NEWER version of this lens or the older one (there were two 170-500s, before the 150-500 came out) - one of them has a rubbery coated zoom ring like this one, and the other has a ribbed one - like I said I don't know which is newer but this is the better one in my opinion. It is lighter, for one thing, and I used the other one on a Canon, and could not get sharpness out of it until about a stop slower than this one can give you. Look at the reviews, the FIRST review is basically how I feel about it - there are some stunning shots of birds in there and after seeing them, I don't know how anyone can call this lens not sharp. But whatever the case, you're not going to get 500mm for this price often, but here it is.
$440 plus postage (I'm sorry it varies greatly worldwide, PM me with your country for an exact quote)
Also feel free to PM me offers!
Paypal and bank deposit from Australia buyers accepted, or cash on pick up.
I can't fault the condition of this lens - it's stunningly kept all around, with nothing cosmetically wrong and all functional things (elements, zoom, aperture and focus rings all in perfect order) - basically it hasn't been used much at all. The only thing I can really fault on it is that it's missing a hood, and its original case. I started a thread recently about where to get a hood for it, and apparently Sigma sell the genuine article for $25 + $7 postage in the US (probably about $15 worldwide postage) - or you could make your own or do without it. For the case, I will supply a case that I didn't get to photograph - the lens fits in it beautifully and it's actually a hard case, so it will be well protected.

Anyway - now the photos can do the talking as to its condition. I don't know quite how to photograph a completely clean front element but I did my best, shining a torch into it to show its clean reflection.

This is the older version of the lens; the newer one has the "DG" designation. I previously owned both versions and did not find any significant difference in IQ between them.

Looks like a great lens at a fair price.

BTW, has anyone ever used this lens with a K-5 for sports photography? Specifically soccer?
