Looking for an adapter to use a Nikon macro and a wide angle lens on my *ist ds, not sure how well the ones on ebay (from china) work. Wondering if anyone has one or can recommend one.

Do you mean adapters like this one? Macro Nikon Lens to Pentax PK Mount Adapter K-r K-7 K-5 K-20D K-x K-m K-10D Kr | eBay

It would work. Any Nikon lens used would only focus very close, in a macro range. A wide angle lens would focus so close that the objective may touch the subject, so this adapter would be better for long lenses.

I have Fotodiox adapters same as you see here........
http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Lens-Mount-Adapter-adapter/dp/B003EAUBDE

I do not use them at all. I can sell it for a reasonable price. Let me know if you are interested.

It will push any F lens into close-focus or macro range. You didn't say how long your macro and wide-angle lenses are, what focal lengths. And I don't know exactly how thick the adapters are; Harish may be able to tell you. All I can say for sure is that any F lens using such an adapter will lose infinity focus and gain close focus -- the shorter the lens, the closer the focus. Good luck!

The 60mm would be usable on the adapter. The zoom would not be very usable -- focus would be too close. And yes, you lose infinity focus on ANY lens with ANY glassless adapter.

Optical adapters exist. These act as short teleconverters, probably around 1.2x. They also degrade image quality a bit, so whatever was special about the lenses is lost.

Not necessarily. A valuable lens may be worth a Leitax conversion -- that will be in the rough neighborhood of US$100. A not-so-valuable lens can be modified ('chopped') to fit a PK mount. NOTE: These options are only for manual-focus F-mount lenses, no AF.

If you have an inexpensive lens that you won't mind sacrificing, ie it loses its resale value, then a Dremel metal-cutting blade, properly applied, can let most Nikon lenses work on a Pentax camera, IF the lens weighs under 450g / 1lb or so. If this interests you, I can point you to my posts detailing how it's done.
