Hi Mike,
For what it's worth, your Zenit 17-69 was not made for a still camera. It was the kit lens for the Krasnogorsk-3 16mm motion picture camera and has an image circle to match that format (7.49 mm by 10.26 mm vertical). The K-3 has a standard M42 mount and the registration distance is the same as a M42 still camera, but as you discovered, your zoom is too deep to mount on an SLR and will likely vignette on APS-C and micro 4/3 due to the 11mm image circle.

Cheers!

Steve

Yes i know this, however the image circle for the lens is still bigger then necessary for the 16mm camera, it will definitely vignette on an APS-C but you might be able to get away with it on a m43rds camera (partially tested)... the adapter i tested it on wouldn't allow the lens to be threaded the whole way so it acted as an extension tube but i don't remember the vignetting being that bad.
