I bought one from KEH that is M2. The price was around $35 as I remembered. It works in Metz A mode. Flash can get the zoom number, aperture and distance(maybe), 3 parameters. M2 is much cheaper than M3 version.

SCA 3702 M2 can be upgraded to M3 by a Metz service center - no cost to you (I figure you'll have to pay for the shipping). Send an email to Metz (email address is somewhere on their website) as where to send the SCA module to.

M2 does not support p-TTL; M3 does, no wireless nor high-speed sync, however.

M1 can not be upgraded.

According to Metz, M2 supports PTTL on K10d/K20d and a few other older models, and the M3 is needed for K5, K7, Kx and Kr.

Quite informative. I'll try and see if I can upgrade to M3. So far Metz A works just fine.

Email message from Metz Tech Support:

Many thanks for your e-mail as of 29. July 2011.

Basically the mentioned flash unit mecablitz 54 MZ-4 also can be used together with the digital-cameras Pentax K10D and K5. In this case the P-TTL-flash-control and synchronisation at the second curtain also will be enable. But please note that for this combination the adapter SCA 3702 with the current version "M3" is necessary. We fear that you use a former version of this adapter.

Normally you can read back the adapter version by a white label on the top of the adapter housing respectively the version is printed on the housing. If you use the version "M" you need a new adapter. If you use the version "M2" the adapter can be updated on "M3" by our agency.

However, unfortunately the HSS-function and the Pentax remote system isn't possible together with the flash unit mecablitz 54 MZ-4.

Best regards

My flash is 54 MZ-4. So I will check with them to see how much shipping cost. I think I can try to sell the Nikon M adapter to cover the cost ^_^.

Thanks a lot!

HI,

I have an absolutely brand new packaged 3702 "M . Its a brand new module, with the two original booklets in matz packaging. I never got around to mounting or using right after purchase from B&H a long time ago. I'm sure it could be reprogramed to the latest M version. I sent you a private message. Thanks!

Dave
