Item Description
Lens body is in excellent condition, but there is a crack right across the rear lens element - I did say crackerjack lenst! Also, some oil on the blades, and it's dusty inside. Anyone who has a beat-up 135/2.5 body with a good rear lens element, and is willing to replace the broken element with the good one and clean the oil off the blades, will have a new beauty. There are no electrical contacts on this lens, can't imagine it being a big job getting the element replaced. The k-mount is also damaged, but still fits and works perfectly - looks to me as if this may have gotten stuck on a camera or something - I cannot even imagine how a steel mount could get to look like this.

Amazingly, the lens still takes decent photos, with a nice, soft feel to them if the light is not too direct. The three pics of the rose, leaves and 16-45 were taken with this lens. I don't really want to throw this away, but that's probably where it's going to go, unless someone can recycle the good parts.

If everything works out, the lens will have me as it's new owner where it will meet some other lenses of it's age group.

Back when I worked in TV production we had a video camera take a nose dive and the front element on a multi thousand dollar Cannon video lens was shattered like a spider web yet remained in place. While the focus and zoom were forever jammed we put it on another camera to see what it looked like, to our surprise you could not tell it was cracked unless you hit with some strong light from the side. The camera was repaired and lived to see another day!

Those were the days, the camera was actually repaired. I guess the broadcast and pro cameras of today are still repaired.

My Dad who was a keen photographer always told the story of some lens designer or builder from an earlier age who when told that one of his lens had a crack in it apparently replied, "My lenses are to be looked THROUGH not AT."

Sums it up quite well doesn't it.

It's amazing how a bad looking, beat up lens can still take a good photo.

The Tak is now spoken for, together with an smc Pentax-A 70-210/4 which I had listed a short while back, but had discovered some problems subsequently and therefore withdrew. Also free. Glad they have a new home...
