I'm interested in this and live in Seattle, WA and have friends who go to WSU for school. Just curious how this compares to the Tamron 70-300 di ld 1:2 macro lens, if you know or have links to comparisons of the 2? Thanks.

I have owned both - with the Pentax you lose 1:2 macro but gain sharpness at the high end. The real bonus is having the 55-70mm range on board, that saves me a lot of lens changes. I believe focus is a bit faster with the DA; it's not as speedy as some but that Tamron was pretty leisurely as I recall (I did not have them at the same time to be more definitive).

Question re your 55-300

Am also interested in this lens and have one question: if you don't mind my asking --- why are you selling it?

Thanks for the infomation! Yeah I dont really need the 1:2 macro as I have a raynox dcr 'macro'/close-up adapter which on a sharper lens would produce equal if not better images, I believe.

I originally bought this lens thinking that I might have a lens ready someday when I need a good telephoto. Turns out that I haven't shot teles for months and I believe I really am not a tele person :ugh:

Also, I am trying to fund my BBA (film body instead of lenses) so I guess this lens have to go.

chaplinlau, I'm interested in this item but am based in Australia. Would you consider selling if I cover the additional postage + insurance? I have a verified Paypal address.

Alternatively, I have a US-address with myusshopnship.com that can be used. They would combine & on-forward at my expense.
