Kiron is the only manufacturer who made this design...
These lenses were made by Kino Precision Industries for Vivitar. Kiron was a house brand of Kino, who, following the success of the Vivitar S1 Lenses they had manufactured, decided to manufacture and market their own lenses under the brand name of Kiron.

Yes, Trader Jim, I was trying to recollect the name of the ebay seller that sold those new old stock Viv S1 Macros. They came brand spanking new in the original leather case, boxed and with that fresh from the factory smell. A blast from the past! Still have mine.
I have a story: I purchased mine from him. However he did not include any receipt and the Canadian custom (I was in Ontario then) estimated $400 value for the lens (I guess they'd weighed it!). I had to pay the tax to the postman to have it. The difference of tax was around $15 and did not worth spending time for a refund, but I was really angry with Jim!

I just got my Vivitar S1 70-210/3.5 made by Kiron (manual - need stop down with green button). I am impressed with the quality of this lens. Now, I understand the comments about this one. I also have the Viv. S1 70-210/2.8-4 by Komine, so I am comparing them. The Kiron is really superheavy.

I few unsuccessful attempt to catch a photo like this for a long time with my Sigma 70mm AF macro. I think that the only way you can get picture like this is to put super glue on the whole tree and wait for a dragon fly to sit on it. Just wondering what is your secret. Great job.

Marcus's picture looks like some kind of Robber Fly (Bee Snatcher is another name) species. Here is one from me using the Vivitar 105 2.5 (same lens)...
