Asahi Pentax K (King) with Zebra 55/1.8

Item for Sale
Asahi Pentax K with a Zebra 55/1.8

Price
$350 CAN net to me

Item Description

My 1958 K.....I hate to let it go but I find myself with two of them so off to a new home this one goes. It is complete with the proper Takumar Zebra 50/1.8, front and camera case. This camera is what started my collecting the late 1950s and early 60s Asahi cameras. Beautifully handmade and fully mechanical, I was surprised at how modern they feel to use. My avatar pic was taken with the camera.

Are you the original owner of the item being sold?
No

Are you selling or trading this item?

As shown in picture. A few minor marks but in lovely shape. I've shot a number of rolls with this camera and although I'm sure it could use a CLA at some point, it has worked flawlessly for me.

Victoria, Canada

I'm on the island, resisting the urge to go see this. If I come home from Victoria with another camera I'll be in the doghouse for too long... CBA. /cry

Looks good, but I'm new to these cameras - which K model is this? And, I assume it is manual focus?

It is the first K. It is only called the Asahi Pentax K and was the only body that came with that Auto Tak 55/1.8 'Zebra' lens. It was also the first body that could trip the diaphragm lever. The Auto Taks were actually semi-automatic because it had to be cocked before each shot or operated stop down style. These are very small bodies and sleek. It was released in 1958 following the Asahi Pentax 'AP' and 'S" in 1957, the first Pentax bodies with the prism. If I got down to 1 m42 body, this would be it.

They don't need batteries because they don't have light meters.

Need some more help - If I want to research this under the Forum's manual cameras, which one would I read about describing this camera?

It is in the camera review section under m42 (screwmount) bodies.

Pentax K (Tower 29) - M42 Screwmount Film SLRs - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications

Did you see the link I added above as well?

Beautiful camera and really nice images, but I don't think I'd do too well without a light meter in the camera.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks Blue for the updates and thanks uswrdm02 for the interest. I don't have a proper meter, so basically used my ME Super to meter those shots then set the K accordingly.
