Sigma 170-500mm f/5-6.3 APO for Pentax

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Sigma 170-500mm f/5-6.3 APO for Pentax

Asking Price
$500

Item Location
Greenville, SC (United States)

Item Description
This is the little Bigma lens which I purchased off eBay 2 years ago. The lens has worked well for me but I recently purchased a Bigma 50-500 which, although heavier, is better suited for me since it is used for sports as well as wildlife. I have listed the lens as Good condition but it is pretty close to Excellent, in my opinion. There are minor scrapes on the barrel from the collar. There are also specks of dust inside the lens which seems to be inescapable with the way the lenses are designed. I have seen no problem with images due to the dust.

Included are the lens, front and rear caps, tripod collar (removable), original case, and the hood. The hood fits loosely on the lens which also seems to be typical of this model.

I will post photos in a bit.

I love this lens. It works very well hand-held when you support the barrel properly. Nice bird shots!

IMO, this is the best 500mm zoom lens for using handheld. I owned this lens, as well as the Sigma 150-500mm. The newer 50-500mm and 150-500mm lenses are sharper than the 170-500mm, but they are also much larger and heavier. The difference is significant when trying to use the lenses handheld. Handheld can be fun with this lens, but becomes a chore with the bigger lenses.

My favorite way to shoot this lens at 500mm was crouching with my left knee up, and my left elbow resting on my left knee, cradling the end of the lens with my left hand. I could get very good, sharp pictures at 500mm using this method. This is also my favorite way to shoot my AR-15 rifle at distance.

Great lens.. 500mm on a crop sensor with SR is some serious reach. I enjoyed mine when I had it last year

Nice shot of the tiger. I have a set of shots from our zoo taken with the lens. It also worked well for shooting birds. I used it some for football (both American and soccer) but 170 was not really wide enough and meant I had to change lenses more often. It is lighter than the Bigma.

It's been a while since I used the lens so thought I would take a few shots this afternoon. Very rainy today and not a lot of light. These are with the built-in flash. All pretty much straight from the camera except for some cropping.
