This is the classic/legendary Vivitar Series 1 105mm f2.5 Macro lens - it really doesn't need much of an introduction.
I've kind of gone full circle with 100mm macro lenses trying quite a few of them over the past couple years. First was the Tamron 90mm AF - probably one of the sharpest, but I didn't like the fact that you had to move 2 switches to change from AF to MF. Then the D FA 100 (non WR) - again wanted the quick shift feature, so went to the D FA 100 WR next. I was quite settled with the WR lens, but for some reason sold it a while back then purchased this Vivitar Macro. The Vivitar rivals them all as far as outstanding IQ and sharpness. But, I use this focal length for a walk around lens using it quite a bit for non-macro and close up work. As I am getting older and my eyesight along with that, I find it more difficult to manual focus. So, with that, I've decided to sell this one and go back to the D FA 100 WR lens.
I bought this lens from an outstanding forum member (joe.penn) a few months ago. It is in near perfect condition both outside and inside. The focusing ring is nicely dampened and has a nice long throw enabling precise focus easily. The glass is clean with no marks or dust particles on or in any of the elements. The lens is super clean and the build quality is outstanding.
The lens comes with the original front and rear caps as well as a Vivitar branded leather (leatherette?) pouch. The lens hood is integrated.
