Item Description
I've purchased this from zbrueningsen on a whim a while back and just have not really had the chance to use it. I guess I'm more of a prime lens guy...

Here is the description from the original thread:
"Tokina ATX 28-70 2.8 (72mm) Auto Focus: This has been my most used lens since I purchased it from the forum for Christmas. It is a beast, and it takes very sharp pictures with very good colors. The glass is almost perfect (it has a few specs of dust inside), the outside is in good condition, but the 28-70 lettering has rubbed off. This lens has a "built in lens creep lock" where it is stiff between 28-35mm (which was the way many of them were). There is one issue with it (and maybe this is normal for close focusing): it seems as there is a little play in the neck and to shoot close shots I would have to give it a little tug. This is not the SV version, nor is it the Angeneiux Pro 77mm version either. It will come with a Quantaray 72MM filter with a metal screw on hood and caps"

I think it is a bit soft at full telephoto of 70mm wide open, sharpest around f4, but overall a great performer. It does pretty well at 28mm wide open. Here are some sample images.

70mm f2.8

70mm f4.5

Hey - I sold that for the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5. Regretted it as the Sigma failed time and time again to get fare skinned people in focus. The color rendering is great on this lens.

At 70 2.8 its soft properties are great for portraits.
