I had the previous non-macro version for awhile and I was happy with the IQ. I sold it after a couple years when I reorganized my lenses. This version is rumored to be better.

So this is an EX lens but doesn't have HSM? Not trashing, sincerely asking for clarification

Good question.. and you are correct, this is a non_HSM version (or if it is HSM it's the stealth version )

Btw, the firmware on this lens was adjusted in April of this year by CRIS.

I think (although I am not an expert on this,) all the 18-50 macro or not aren't HSM, as opposit to the later pricer 17-50mm

I had this lens and really enjoyed it. It is a really prolific lens. Here are couple of shots. The portrait of my dad is taken wide open at f2.8.

Hi momotazur, thanks for the reference. Did you mean this particular lens or a different copy of same model?

Sorry about the confusion. I meant different copy of same model. But they are in general very good, much better than the non-macro version and got good reviews in this forum.

This is my everyday lens: sharp, consistent focus thru range, good build quality.

For a while had both a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and this one and
did plenty of side-by-side comparing.

Sold the Tamron, kept the Sigma. Great lens
