Item Description
Lens collectors, you probably already know there are a few rare gems out there that don't come up for sale very often. Read on...

This is the Vivitar Series 1 28mm f/1.9 wide angle lens in Pentax P/K Mount and FULL FRAME ready. The leading "37" indicates it was made by Tokina, which in my experience is historically one of the best manufacturers of Vivitar lenses. Among the vast array of Vivitar 28mm variants, THIS is the fastest ever made (largest max aperture), making it excellent for low light applications and wide angle bokeh shots. The lens is as elegant and stylish as they come, made of metal (no plastic), and has an internal focus design which keeps the lens at constant length, great for ultra close-ups. The focusing ring is as smooth as they come, comparable to the buttery Takumars of the same era. I cannot find a spec on the minimum focusing distance, but the markings on the lens indicate less than 1 ft for sure. The lens is multi-coated.

If you shoot video, you will find the extra wide focus ring comfortable and perfect for fine tuning your moving subjects. Moreover, the bokeh at f/1.9 creates some amazing isolation for any subject.

About this copy, I searched for over a year before finding this one and have owned it for 2.5 years. The condition of the lens is AMAZING considering it is a used lens. There are no marks anywhere on the elements, no internal dust, no oil on the aperture blades, not even any visible wear on the mount itself. Just the slightest cosmetic rub marks and gentle evidence that it has been used, but that is it. The aperture lever is snappy and there are 8-blades. I am including a generic front and rear cap.

Some of my favorite pictures were shot with this lens. Here is a Flickr to a gallery of pics shot with this lens:

If you are not able to view these, please ask and I can email you some pics.

I am crazy for letting go of it, I know, but I also bought an FA31 and find myself using it for AF more often as my middle aged eyesight is starting to fail me. But hey, if you don't want to drop $900 for the FA31, THIS is a worthy replacement.

Feel free to ask questions and good luck!

I too love that creative shot of yours.

By the way, this is supposedly the first lest ever to use a form of "close range correction"; i.e. a lens group that moves at close focusing distances to correct aberrations in that range.

thanks all, the pic is called "Last Sip"; it is the can's eye view of the last sip of Diet Dr. Pepper. I got my wife to be the mouth model, lol.

The lens may already be sold to amber waters, awaiting payment...
