Tamron SP 300mm f2.8 LD - Adaptall II

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Tamron SP 300mm f2.8 LD - Adaptall II

Item Location
Southern California (United States)

Item Description
For sale is Tamron SP 300mm f2.8 LD Adaptall II mount lens. I have had this lens for couple of years and I have enjoyed it very much. It produces great photos and comes with a 1.4xTC and a 2X TC designed by Tamron for this lens. The lens comes with a Pentax Pk-A mount (you can use it with any other camers, but you will have to get the proper adapter), the lens has the "A" to communicate with the camera. It also produces correct EXIF data. The lens comes with the famous natural filter, which seems to be part of the formula. The lens produces sharp images at 300mm, with the 1.4x, it maintains the IQ (420mm f4), with the 2x TC it becomes a little soft (510mm f5.6) and you will need a tripod. I have used it mainly for birding, and I use it hand held.

The lens is heavy. However, I used it mostly hand-held. When I plan to shoot longer than two hours, I bring my monopod along. The lens did not see much use until I bought it couple of years ago. So, it looks very nice and shows minimum wear (if any). Looking through the lens wide open, you can see the shutter and lenses very clean. However, when I put a flash light through, you can see miniature dust inside, hard to notice without the flash light. The front lens looks nice and clean, with exception of three small dots located off the center that were there when I purchase them, they do not interfere with the quality of the image. I tried to show, but I could not show them in the photo. It seems to me that it could have been some condensation that dried off, or maybe a little fungus. However, for the last two years, they have been without change. I think the dry weather of California kept it that way.

I use this lens mainly with the Pentax AF 1.7X Adapter (which I could sell separately), which turns this lens into an AF lens. One has to prefocus and the adapter does the rest. This has been my birding lens, until recently when I purchased a Sigma 120-400. However, I will be selling that one two. I have purchased some Canon gear and am going to be selling all my Pentax gear. Well, I will keep my K5 for using it with my Adaptamatic and my Takumars. Please ask me any questions, if you have them. I will try to answer all of them.

The lens comes with the original black case shown and the original box and lens manual. The black case is in more or less acceptable shape and the box is just ok (6/10), it has seen better times. I had to put some tape around (or inside) it. If you buy this lens, I can add the Pentax AF 1.7x Adapter for only $310 more, shipped.

Hi Pepe,

I know it is impractical to have two systems, but I am sure you will miss your Pentax outfit... :-)

I am looking for a Pentax FA 31mm Ltd lens, do you perhaps have one for sale?

Actually, he or whoever buys this lens could use this on Canon or just about any system with a different Adaptall 2 mount.

No, I don't have that one. I do have the DA 70/2.4 and the DA 35/2.8Macro that can sell for $400 shipped & paypaled each. I will be listing them separately.

Great lens and great pictures.

Were the photos taken with or without the TCs?

Some with the lens alone, some with the TC, some with the 1.4xTamron TC that I no longer have. Check the exif data.

I have responded several emails with questions about the mold etc. Well, I really do not see any problem with those small dots, in honor of full disclosure, I mentioned them to avoid any surprises by the buyer. I am kind of like KEH, where the BGN is a great condition, etc. It is better that the buyer be positively surprised than negatively surprised. This lens is really good and if keep it, it will not need any cleaning or so. I also have received very low ball offers, they are ok, but I cannot accept those, I have already reduced the price I paid for everything to less than half. Also, although I a moving to Canon, I am still keeping my K5 and other lenses (the grass may look greener next door, but it ain't), and I rather keep the lens and use it. It does the same work the $7,900 canon equivalent does.
