It is such a nice lens that it would just about be worth owning two. This is the lens that is on my camera when it comes out of my bag and also when it goes back in.

..someone will be getting a fabulous lens-- again, I've only seen a handful of F/FA 50 f1.7's here on the MP, and they've always had a caveat of "this, or that wrong". This glass is crazy nice.

It looks beautifully taken care off, and it's the first time I see one with the original box.

Is there a difference between this one and the FA model?

I saw very few FA50/1.7 and even fewer F50/1.4, always the other way. Not sure if Fs and FAs have difference, optically.
Nice lens!

There is no difference optically. There is a deep arcane technical difference on the way it talks to the camera; FA's can store or store more MTF data on the lens something kind of unique to Pentax I think. The benefit,in program modes the camera knows where the lens is sharpest and can use it to choose the f-stop vs (shutter speed and sensitivity).

The F can transmit MTF data to my K20D without problem.

Mixed direct info from Pentax.

From the K200D/K20D sell sheets: "If you are working with PENTAX F-, FA-, DA- or DFA-series lenses, you can benefit from the MTF data: a microchip in the lens passes information to the camera regarding the optically optimal and lens-specific aperture to use."

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/889.pdf

...But from the K10D manual...the F series lenses are not listed.
