Item Description
Here is your chance to own one of the most desirable telephoto zoom lenses ever made for Pentax DSLR's. The Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM is approximately the same size and weight as the Pentax 50-135mm f/2.8, and both lenses have superior build quality. But anybody who has used both lenses will tell you that the Sigma auto-focuses much faster than the Pentax, making it a better choice for fast-moving photography such as sports, wildlife, and children. It is also reported to be sharper wide-open at f/2.8 and at extreme telephoto than the Pentax lens. And on top of everything else, it has about 10% more reach than the Pentax 50-135mm.

If you still can't decide between this lens and the Pentax, then you should do a Google search for Pentax SDM problems. You will learn that the SDM autofocus motor in the Pentax 50-135mm is alarmingly prone to failure, usually sometime after the 1-year warranty expires. The HSM autofocus motor in the Sigma, on the other hand, is reported to be very reliable.

The Sigma 50-150mm was only made for a couple years before it was discontinued and replaced with a much bigger and heavier version with OS (Optical Stabilization). The new version is not offered in Pentax mount, which is not surprising since Pentax cameras already have OS built into the body. But unfortunately, the non-OS version is no longer offered. This lens is now extremely hard to find in Pentax mount, with only one or two showing up on eBay in a year.

The Sigma 50-150mm had an MSRP of $1150 before it was discontinued, and now that the Pentax 50-135mm has no direct competition it is currently listed for $1596 (!!!) at B&H and Adorama. This no-reserve auction is your chance to get a legendary lens at a great price. This particular lens is a "refurbished" product from Sigma, and it is indistinguishable from new and even comes with a full 90-day Sigma US warranty. I suspect that it is probably just old stock, and is not a refurb. The lens comes as new in the box with all of the original accessories.
