[SOLD] FS FA 50mm f1.7

Well regarded lens and one I've had for awhile. I'm selling this and a few other things to (of course!) buy more things.

Lens is in great shape and I'll toss in a hood I got a while back on Fleabay from a guy that said it was fine but it's not quite. One of the 2 spring clips is missing. The hood stays on fine and shades the lens well but it's not a firm on the lens as having 2 clips. I just put the working clip facing up and there wasn't an issue.

SOLDncluding Paypal and shipping to Canada and the USA. $10 for shipping anywhere else.

Note there is an error in the title this is an "F" not "FA" 50mm f1.7.169

Small point (I think) but the title says FA while the photo reveals F. I gather these are virtually identical...maybe the chip in the FA gives more/better data to the camera to put into (digital camera) exif files or something?

I've just observed how soft the 50/1.4 really is wide open, and am starting to wonder if I should "downgrade" to losing a halfstep of speed for what sounds through posts here like sharper results in the 1.7-2.8 or 4.0 range.

Hmmm....

Okay, no, I waffle on everything and it must bug sellers to no end. I'm not buying this...now...someone else please go and do so so I stop thinking about it!

Yes David you are correct. I mistakenly put FA in the title and posted it before I realized the mistake. I've also owned the FA 50 f1.4 and I don't see much difference between the 2 lenses. The 1.4 is of course faster and has slightly thinner DOF when wide open but I found both to be sharp throughout the range.

I think that 8 blades vs 6 blades still helps to render out of focus background more nicely on average for FA 50/1.4 vs its 1.7 siblings

Well, those posts make me feel better about my inertia, sticking with the 1.4 I've got.

But I have noticed that several reviews of the 1.4 here, as highly regarded as it is, note softness wide open. And a few of the 1.7 reviews note greater sharpness in the wide open range.

Maybe my 1.4 is not the best copy? Or maybe those reviewers are right. But I do love its bokeh. I keep using this photo to remind myself how good I have it:

I'm surprised that there are no takers. I realize lots of people have good 50's in the bag but 240 views and not one PM???? $169 total cost can't be too high, is it?

OK OBO then....

This is a very nice lens. To my knowledge the only difference between the F and the FA is that the latter gives to the camera information about the MTF chart (i.e. sharpness depending on the chosen aperture); so I suppose that when you are in green mode the camera can choose the aperture based also on that, while if you are in aperture mode, I don't know whether it makes a difference or not.

You are right about that and since most of us don't use either the green mode or program line (chooses the lenses optimum aperture) then it's not much of a big deal. The program line is funny to some degree, I've owned a ton of Pentax lenses and the program line for all of them seems to be about the same > f8 or f11. So I guess the vast majority of Pentax lenses are the sharpest at those apertures.

That makes 2 of us. Go to the lens forum and see what I mean. The only thing stopping me from buying is that I don't have enough money. I'm pretty happy with my zooms--I just want more primes.

Since we're both in Florida, I think we've got the beginnings of the Florida chapter.
