Sigma 150-500 F5 - 6.3 APO DG OS HSM BIG REDUCTION

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Sigma 150-500 F5 - 6.3 APO DG OS HSM

Asking Price
750.00 USD PRICE REDUCTION !!

Item Location
Québec (Canada)

Item Description
This item is now for sale again * and is in excellent shape.
(see details below from the provided links to see the lens and some pictures taken with it)

History:

1. Bought from a Canadian seller here on this forum. (march 2013)

2. Lens was then sold to a Canadian buyer on the Market Place (here) when I decided to try to buy a much more expensive lens ( a Sigma 500/4.5) but this never happened.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/36-sold-items/231504-sale-sold-sigma-150-...po-dg-hsm.html

3. Not enough money for the Sigma 500/4.5: I missed having the longer reach, so when I saw that the last buyer was putting it again for sale, I bought it back from him.
He had then purchased a Pentax 250-600 and had no more use for the 150-500.
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/36-sold-items/235695-sale-sold-sigma-150-...dg-os-hsm.html

4. So, the purchase of the Sigma 500/4.5 did not materialize and I still don't have enough "dough" to buy it.
I presently need the cash, so it is going for sale.
This Sigma 150-500 lens is in great condition and performs as expected.

I had forgotten to put this in the original post:

This may be of interest to Canadian buyers: there is a possibility that this lens would still carry a warranty.
Please, if interested, PM me for further details.

That was my bump time for now.

I can assure you that you can buy this lens with confidence... I am the one who bought it from JPZK after doing lots of researches and readings, I thought that would be the best lens for the price in the meantime I find a bigger / more expensive lens ...and re-sold it a little while after because I found a FA* 250-600mm just a couple of weeks after I bought it... see this link for more detail.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/36-sold-items/235695-sale-sold-sigma-150-...dg-os-hsm.html

Some sample photos I took with this lense:

and yes, the warranty is tranferrable in Canada... still almost 8 year warranty... if you want to get the best results, you can sent it to Sigma Canada service center (Gentec) along with your camera body, and the will calibrate it (for FREE since it is under warranty!) to get the sharpest results !

This is the best value for the money on a 500mm focal lenght... !
For those who wonder if this lens is better or not that the Bigma (50-500MM)

There are maybe some differences, but not that much... and the opinions are generally for the 50-500mm I agree. but not always...

See that link : The 50-500mm vs. 150-500mm shootout and Telephoto FAQ?s by Robert O?Toole - SIGMA Blog | SIGMA Blog

I have another link that shows that the 50-500mm has an advantage of being sharper more uniform from center to the edges, at mid ranges focals, but also shows that the 150-500mm is sharper in the center part at the 500mm end (tests on Canon versions of it) : Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens Image Quality

And to be frank, if you want to shoot birds, there are often pretty far away, and we need to crop the image, so the fact that it is sharper in the center may be a good thing.

I talked to the Sigma's service center in Canada, and they told me they are about the same in terms of quality and sharpness...

If one want to add a premium of 700-1000$ on the 50-500mm, let's go for it !

But, IMHO, for the money, I think the 150-500mm delivers very good quality/cost ratio. Don't forget it's a f6.3 at 500mm, so good light conditions and good technique is needed to perform at its best. The one important advantage of those lenses is the Optical Sabilizer that is very efficient (better than the pentax in-body SR), and I would love to have such OS on my old FA* 250-600mm.

But anyways, I think its not that evident to conclude that the 50-500mm (bigma) is the all around winner, and I will not get more into that debate here... I owned the 120-400mm for long enough to evaluate it's capabilities. I used to own the 150-500mm but bought the FA* 250-500mm just a week after, so I haven't tried it much and this is why I sold it... (and to help pay for the 250-600mm )
I bought it with confidence in the meantime I found something a longer FL lens, and that meantime was just very short... . not to say that the FA* was much much (7 times) more expensive!!!

If I may be hyperbolic, this Sigma 150-500mm lens has made a world of difference in my nature photography. Except for when I could not lift my camera to shoot with the heavy lens — due to previous tendon injuries from 30 yrs. of walking with canes, I've never regretted investing in it — a used purchase from a Seller on this Marketplace. Healed up, I am back to holding this impressive tool. I'm practiced in hand-held shooting of birds, but I know the lens has boosted the success rate in crisp focus — even of birds not posing with a smile. I'm the one with the smile. Just yesterday I had a thrill (I'm easily thrilled…) to have caught sight of a Bald Eagle — not over a field or river but circling on mid-winter thermals coming from downtown Gettysburg, PA. It was overhead for 3 minutes. I attribute the photo's decent quality to the Sigma, but the Eagle deserves some credit, too!

BUMP
There have been quite a few copies of that same lens for sale here, and I am wondering what's going on ?
For a while, we saw them on the Market Place only "once in a blue moon" !

Mine is still up for grabs ... in VERY GOOD condition (I'd say close to being "Excellent").
