~1.9lbs for legs and head. Tripod rated to support 11lbs, ball head rated to support 8.8lbs. Folded length 22.25" with head.

You will be hard pressed to find anything lighter that will still securely support a dslr. Best hiking tripod you can find. The plate on the tripod was machined down precisely to be the same diameter as the bullhead base and some ridges were filed into the ball head clamp knob to improve grip with gloves. I also have the centre column which will extend the height by 9.5" however, never used it as it increases the height, results in a bit of vibration and prevents you from reaching ground level.

I've been considering something like this and the recommended tripod per the guide. For now, I'm going to hold off as I leave next week for 2.5 months of travel.

I sent you a PM but never heard back?

As to a product link this tripod isn't made anymore. Gitzo has changed several aspects of the tripods since I bought this oh, 5years ago... But this is still one of the highest quality tripods, Gitzo is at the top of the line. The older version is actually lighter than the new version with the updated leg locking mechanism which allows the legs to be locked at any angle rather than just the three settings...

Here is the Gitzo website with the latest versions:

Sorry, hectic traveling schedule. Stuck outside Seatac now.

Why would i want to choose this Gitzo over Sirui T-025X Carbon Fiber Tripod with C-10 Ball Head

I have edited your post for a couple reasons. The first is linking to another product with a displayed price is very much like a price comment, which the rules forbid. Secondly, asking the owner to compare his tripod to one he doesn't own and most likely isn't familiar with or have experience with is asking for him to answer a question he can't honestly answer and therefore of dubious use. If you wish to know the pluses and minuses of both, I suggest you take time to research and compare them yourself - something a wise shopper would do anyway.

I know nothing about Sirui tripods, have never seen one, never heard of them, never known anybody with one so that is your research into weight, functionality, how weight capacity is determined by the manufactures, reputation, durability/longevity, etc. I do have several other people interested up ahead of you now. Please respond to the PM I sent you if you are still interested.

Tape is just cloth athletic tape like is used to tape up a sprained ankle. It really improves grip and protects the legs. Me honestly I would never take it off, I use tape like that on several things to improve grip and provide a bit of protection...

Bump, $250. You will be hard pressed to find as high quality a tripod as this with the brand reputations of the tripod and head for the price/features.

Bump, $199.99 plus shipping. This is a third of the new price. Gitzo and Really Right Stuff at a cheaper price than the off brands...

Last offer. After this it just sits in the closet in case I ever end up using again sometime in the future.

And just to prove that it has tremendous load carrying capacity beyond the very conservative ratings of Gitzo and RRS here it is with Pentax 645, 645 A* 600mm, and 10lbs of rice in the bean bag.
