I'm curious about this lens. I'm still in pay-attention mode after buying an SMC A 28/2.8 for my brother and picking up a Vivitar 28/2.8 Komine-made close-focussing one (both about to arrive this week!).

Based on serial numbers sited by members here, I gather the one on offer is not one of the Kiron-made (sn 22...) nor Komine-made (sn 28...), but as a f/2.5 sounds like it might be a Series One? In which case I gather it should be great optics, and a hair faster than my Viv/Komine. Though I don't have a M42-to-K adapter.... Still I might pick it up, compare with the Komine I'm about to get, and sell the other.

So, I figure others may care too, so posting to thread rather than PMing:

Do you know (or if you don't does someone reading this thread know), is it the Series One model? (If so, sounds like a steal!)

Also, what's the minimum focus distance on this lens?

Finally, I'm guessing it may be sharp, but I always associated soft filters with portrait shots & much longer focal lengths. Any particular reason to pair a soft focus filter with this lens? (Pure curiosity on my part).

NO ONE LET MY CURIOSITY GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR BUYING THIS LENS. IT'S PRETTY CRAZY OF ME TO THINK OF PICKING THIS UP AFTER THE PURCHASES I'VE ALREADY JUST MADE!

Question #1,3:I dont know.

Question #1: It does not says Serial One or SO anywhere in the body.

Question #2: The minimum focus distance it indicated is: 0.8 feet or 0.25 m

Hi David - the Series 1 Vivitar is f/1.9.

I've seen different opinions on the 'regular' Vivitars - 2.5 or 2.8, and which versions are 'best'. The 2.8 at least was sold under many brands.

TX means this lens has a type of T mount, where theoretically one could find a mount for a different camera, ala Adaptall.
