Oh yeah, it would be annoying, which is why Adam should set up a bidding system such that PMs are not involved. It would also be best if sellers set a real minimum starting price (not $1 for aK20D), you know, like in real auctions

I'm not saying people shouldn't have fixed sale prices OBO, but for certain items this is not always the best way as it's more difficult to establish a selling price (like old, non-Pentax lenses, or lenses with issues such as the current Tammy).
I agree with you. My first post on the marketplace was an auction and I must say that it was a disaster. Particularly cos most of the people who bidded then dissapeared forever. It looked like my auction was some sort of black hole.

Sorry Alan for hijacking the thread. Consider this a friendly bump

I have to disagree with you. I think auctions should be silent, and often wish eBay would implement this. Each person thinks about what the lens is worth to them, what they're willing to pay for it, and them come up with a number which is PM'd to the seller. This avoids all the "I see your bid and raise you 50 cents" crap that goes on in the final 30s of eBay auctions.
Where would be the thrill of an auction then? What you are proposing is sort of Priceline approach (name your own price) or just simply a WTB ad posted directly to the seller. If you can't be there for the last 30 seconds of an auction then you are not really participating in auction anyway.

I am long time Ebay user and was a lot of times outbid by few cents by last second bidder but that's the whole thrill. If I need to get something cheaper than MSRP then I wait for sale at the local store or post WTB ad if I want something used. But if I want to participate in live auction I go to Ebay.

OP: You get all the bumps by people hijacking your thread (including me)
