Eyetek DS328AZ flash test shot

I don't have many test shots from this manual flash. Here is a sample done on this inexpensive flash.

1/13s, f/2.8, 28mm, iso 200, no flash on K100D

1/125 sec, f/2.8, 28mm, iso 200, with Eyetek flash & K100D

I am newbie to flash and I will find time to test it on K10D. It is a very simple flash that the user menu is composed of 2 paragraphs on a single sheet of paper and it suggests to tune the setting on M mode for f/2.8 and shutter to 1/60 sec in ISO 100 and hence I mimic the setting in K100D in ISO 200 and I get pretty good results on that picture. But results varies when I test it on my boys with various bounce angles, I am total newbie not knowing how to adjust bounce angle so as not to cast shadows on subject

The flash does have the following pluses
  • A bounce flash with both swivel and rotation
  • It has a bracket to hold the flash as an external flash, not mounted on hotshoe, but it requires pc sync connection
  • quite fast in recharge, surprisingly fast when I compare it to AF540
  • small and lightweight

Of course the minuses
  • Cheaply made with all plastic
  • Weak guide number, stated as 28m/92ft in iso 100, f/2.8 setting, I guess
  • Can only be used in f/2.8, need to tweak settings for adjustment
  • No flash adjustment on strength
  • I find many underexposed pictures in testing the flash on K100D as a bounced flash, I don't get consistent results and I am yet to test it with different settings in K10D

Bounce head with swivel, very small and lightweight

Pictures and information of this flash can be found in Inexpensive gear with Pentax - Hin's Tech Corner

I also found this korean site with translated Emobliz DS328AZ

Thank you Hin. I received the lens today exactly as you described and with shipping only two days to Virginia from CA. Awesome.

Now if I can only learn how to take photos!

Thanks for the comment and you are very welcome. That power zoom is awesome in my K10D especially when the power zoom works. Though it may be a gimmick in the past, but I find the power zoom assisting the zoom very engaging experience in taking a fast snapshot. If your Dad are into Pentax film, I highly recommend a future gift with Pentax z1/pz-1/pz-1p cameras that have all the features that work with power zoom. My Pentax PZ-1 is roughly around $100, and since I got a good walk around with SMC FA 28-105, I gave up the power zoom.

You are very welcome. For manual lens, there is a setting to be set up in your camera MENU setup which allows metering using 'aperture ring', I don't remember the exact wording but you can reference in my blog post on M42 but the settings apply to both M42 and manual lens without the 'A' aperture

And it is normal that when you power on your lens and you see F-- in display for unknown aperture even when you have selected an aperture. It is a bit annoying not to know the aperture in the exif leaving it something to be desired for manual lens. But I have gotten used to the missing info. As far as I remember, the metering is very accurate on M 200mm f/4.0 when I use it on my K10D, even if it requires adjustment, it will be a small Ev adjustment. Please PM me for questions. Rough steps in using the manual lens:
  • power on, menu prompt for SR focal length, select 200mm
  • use Av aperture mode in mode dial
  • turn aperture ring to select f/aperture
  • preview a shot and review IQ brightness in LCD
  • adjust Ev compensation with [+] value for underexposure and [-] value for overexposure

For Ev compensation, I like to use 1/3 stop instead of the default 1/2 stop increment, you can tune the settings in Custom setting.

The other metering mode is to use M mode with green button to do stop down metering
  • power on, menu prompt for SR focal length, select 200mm
  • select M mode in mode dial
  • turn aperture ring to select f/aperture
  • meter a scene with [green] button and you note the shutter speed
  • preview a shot in LCD
  • adjust shutter time according to brightness in preview shot, use longer time for underexposure and shorter time for overexposure. the back command dial on shutter speed should equal the f/stop increment in your settings.

Hope this helps you!

Price lowered for Eyetek Flash

I lowered the price of the Eyetek flash. I still lack time to do a full report on the flash. It is a working unit and I tested it on K10D but the flash seems to underexpose using the internal light sensor. I have better pictures in covering the light sensor and adjust the shutter speed in test shots.

Please note all the pluses and minus that I stayed honestly on earlier thread in comment #17. More pictures in this korean site with translated Emobliz DS328AZ . I sell this flash as I have purchased AF540 and I have also gotten a used copy of AF500 for my film gear in TTL. Hope someone take this flash home.

Fast Sale: Buy Tokina, get flash for free

Anyone who purchase the Tokina lens at stated price will have the flash for free.

I hope someone react as I love my Tokina lens which I had withdrawn from this sale thread before. I throw this lens back in to help close out this sale thread. And please check my feedbacks from previous buyers and sellers.
