Item Description
This is the classic Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/3.5 Macro (first version made by Kiron) in the M42 screw mount. It is still a very capable lens with beautiful bokeh and good sharpness. It is a great buy for someone wanting to do some inexpensive macro work.

The lens is in perfect working order and still takes excellent photos. Other than a little dust inside the lens, there are some spots in the glass near the front element (see photos) that look like some degradation in the coatings or delamination in the elements. It has not changed in the three years I have owned this lens, so I do not suspect it is fungus. I do not see that the spots are affecting image quality. When I took the lens to my local camera shop, and they attempted to open the front and scratched or stripped the metal retaining ring. They did not get it open, and when I complained about the damage, they put some paint over the scratches. Since then I've decided to leave it alone. The only other anomaly is that the previous owner etched his phone number on the barrel.

This is a heavy lens (2 lbs, 1.5 oz), and has some unique features. You zoom by pushing and pulling, and the focus ring turns backwards from most lenses. To switch to macro mode, pull the zoom all the way back and rotate the macro switch. To focus in macro mode, you push/pull the zoom ring. The aperture ring is all manual and is working perfectly.

It comes with the original Series 1 metal front cap, as well as a plastic rear cap. I will also include a generic M42-Pentax K-mount adapter and a leatherette case (a bit too long for the lens, but it fits).

This does work great with the new Pentax models with the LiveView focus peaking.
