[SOLD] How much could I sell my FA* 24mm f2 for?

I really love it and don't want to sell it, but I need money for the DA* 16-50mm (I have a K10D), so I'm still hesitating whether to sell it or not... what do you think, how much could I sell it for? Or do you think it would be smarter to keep it because it's good and rare?

Btw, it's just the lens, no hood or case and it's in very good condition. The glass is clean and clear, no scratches, fungus or dust inside. There are some minor marks on the exterior but it's almost nothing (I can post some images if someone want to see it).

Anyone here interested in buying it? (I can put it on ebay or if you prefer we can directly use PayPal or money transfer)

How much for the 24mm?

The wide aperture on this lens is nice, but the downside is that it is quite a heavy lens when compared to the newer lenses from Pentax.

Also, you don't mention the year your lens was built (they came out in 1991) and whether or not any of the silver paint was scratched (a common occurrence with this lens).

Assuming good quality and only a few years old (they stopped making this lens in 2004), I'd say around $125-275 depending on the market desire for this lens.

Maybe you could post a picture of the lens and that would help with moving it.

I don't know when it was made, but the serial number is 3692977, there are no scratches on the silver paint and I will post some pictures later (tomorrow), don't have the time now...

Btw, $125-275 seems REALLY low... (I can sell it now to someone here in Switzerland for $375-400)

This is a rare and extremely high-quality lens.

$700 is around what it's worth. Giving $125 for it would be a scam...

eBay: Pentax Wide Angle SMCP-FA 24mm f/2.0 AL IF Autofocus... (item 300074303118 end time Jan-25-07 20:00:29 PST)

your right this one sold on ebay the other day. Of course there is some ebay madness involved and I could not find one for sale anywhere.

That one wasn't 100% perfect- it had two marks on the hood and one on the body.

Here's the previous auction that I won (a mint copy): eBay: Pentax SMC-FA* 1:2 24mm IF/AL - Rare * ! (item 190064123694 end time Dec-23-06 10:35:44 PST)

All in all, IMO they average out at $700.

Thanks for the links...

Without hood ans case, I don't expect mine to go for as high as $700 if I decide to sell it, but $500-600 would already be a good price IMO (it would allow me to buy the DA* 16-50mm when it's released ).

Maybe Pentaxshooter is an eBay reseller? Buying low and selling high isn't scamming, it's profiteering(not that there's anything wrong with that), but not likely to succeed in a forum like this.

I'd agree- having the hood, case, and original caps definitely adds to the value.

BTW, I fear that all the DA*'s will be in the $1000 category...

OMG

Dear me......lighten up guys.....

I was merely responding honestly.....I didnt even check ebay.

I think the profiteering comes from the (very recent) increases in Pentax used lenses which have substantially increased in price upon the release of the K100D/K10D and their ability to use older lenses.

At worst....I erred in the amount I suggested and was uninformed about this lens.....no sense beating me up for it or making wierd, unfounded accusations.

BTW, if the price is as high as everyone mentions...I'd KEEP the lens.

Don't worry about it. It's just that this is one of Pentax's sharpest and fastest wide-angles

Lazar, if I were you, I wouldn't part with this lens in favor of a DA.

I'll second that. I wouldn't part with known glass in favor of unknown, as a general statement.

The Tokina AF 50-135mm costs less than $800, the Pentax version should cost $200-400 more, so around $1000-1200.
And I hope that the 16-50mm will be a bit cheaper than the 50-135mm, maybe around 800-1000$.

Of course, I might be completely wrong, only time will tell

Btw, I know how great and rare the FA* 24mm is, that's why I'm still hesitating whether to sell it or not, but I'm asking myself how often will I use it when I have the DA 16-50mm...
