I've got this lens and I am happy with it. It is only lens to carry when you only need one lens.

This is one of my favorite lenses - and my favorite wide lens. Yes, it's true - I sold my (also excellent) DA15 but kept this. The f/2 aperture makes a big difference in its usefulness/utility compared to the f/2.8 of the FA20 and FA28. IQ is already very good when stopped down only 1/3 stop to f/2.2.

When focused on close objects it has probably the most rapid and distinct transition from In-Focus to Out-Of-Focus I've ever seen. It's not a problem, just something interesting to get used to. In fact I think it often works better for me. This is in stark contrast to the character of the FA31, though they are both excellent lenses (I sold my FA31 too - the FA*24 just gets used more).

In fact, I can meet most of my photography needs with just the FA*24, FA*85 (or FA77), and F/FA/DA*300.

Thanks everyone, I agree completely! I usually keep this lens at f2.2! I travel a lot though, so I am currently appreciating the weather proofing of the 20-40mm
