SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]

Asking Price

Item Description
I have owned this lens since 1994, acquiring it direct from Pentax new, and have used it since then for numerous assignments. It has always stayed in it's custom Pentax lens case, and while there are some scratches here and there, and a button is missing on a little used lens control, the glass is perfect and the quality is fantastic. It comes with the matching Pentax L (long) converters, 1.4XL and 2XL, which are superb and retain image integrity. NOTE: This is a lens meant for a shooter, meaning the glass is clean and clear (Arizona climate helping in that regard), but it is not cosmetically perfect.
This is a rare lens, and when the long awaited FF body is released you'll have a working focal range of 250-1200mm. With an APS-C body like the K-3 you have 375mm-1800mm at your choice.

So why am I selling this lens now? In recent years I've done less and less long lens shooting and have been using my 645Z a great deal. Less wildlife and sports and more landscape, (while teaching workshops), so I would prefer to move the capital invested in the superior optic to medium format. I may regret this sale when the new body arrives so think this one over, but not too long...

Kerrick

Please read the Item Description closely! This lens has perfect glass, but is a working lens for a shooter, not for showpiece display. It is offered with both the 1.4XL and 2XL converters for one package price...

If you are local you can test the lens before buying but I'm not inclined to ship it around the country for a round of tests unless you're very serious and have the money to purchase. I'd prefer to ship within North America but might possibly ship overseas. Write with questions!

My wife would kill me, then divorce me, which would show the level of her anger, since I'd already be dead.

You had me at hello Norm! Your wife's reaction is why I'm no longer married, but I always shoot what I want when I want...

Best, Kerrick

This is the greatest telephoto glass Pentax has ever made. Well worth the price asked for. I am debating which is more important, this lens or two working kidneys as we speak.

Wow, I too have one like this and I am using a lot! (see my threads here and my flickr albums). It's pretty heavy, and you would need a sturdy tripod and head (you may need to invest another 1k$ in this), but image quality is superb!
I's say jump on it before kjames5 change his mind...

That's mouth watering!

I'm also intrigued by your 'when' the FF body gets released, rather than 'if' it gets released.

If I'm not mistaken, you're of of Pentax's beta testers, right?

Does this lens give quick auto-focus mounted to K5-K3?

I have nothing to say, but great lens, and being part of a thread in which Kerrick is part of.

BTW, what is the filter in the plastic container (3rd Image) ? a CPL (polarizer) ? Shouldn't come with its own special mount ? If so, I am looking for one like this for a while... but can't find one.

Lens questions...

Thank you everyone, and yes that is a 43mm Polarizer, which screws into the drop in filter drawer. It was my addition to the kit long ago.

Don't sell the car unless you really need to!

If I already had my rental property fixed back up and sold this would be mine.
