That Tamron and Sigma are the same lens basically if you look really closely. Tamron and Sigma appear to collaborate on design from time to time.

Now, that both those beloved 70-200mm 2.8 has gone, I have to give a push to this sale (with much sadness in my soul)

First, I must ad another lens, Sigma EX DG 50mm f1.4 HSM (not the Art). It's a lens that blow me away, focusing in low light (with K-5 IIs) where I cannot distinguished any detail with my eye. And, also a very sharp one, Sharp enough for portrait even from F1.4, and embarrassingly sharp from F2.8. In very good condition, with original hood, caps, and pouch. Price is 410 US$, plus transport fees.

Second, I must ad pictures for Sigma 10-20/3.5, and for Sigma 50/1.4.

Really? What makes you think so? I'm not talking about small cosmetic differences. I've also noticed a strong similarity between the The Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.3 and the Sigma 170-500mm f/5-6.3. I'd like to see your opinion.

Because I had both, and I used both, I can say that, in may opinion their are not same lens.

1. Physical length is diferent, and is a difference of almost an inch. Also the shape is different. This means that optical formula is different.

2. Color rendering is different, so other glasses are used.

3. Sigma is sharper than Tamron at close distance, Tamron is sharper at long distance wide open.

4. Tamron can be used with almost any AF TC in AF mode, Sigma for Pentax cannot be used in AF with any TC, not even with their own.

5. Tamron don't have permanent manual focus, as Sigma has.

Of course, I've didn't opened them to look inside, but in my opinion, they are not the same.

Different construction, for starters, LXNights!

Both have 18 elements, but 15 for the Sigma, only 13 for the Tamron, with different performances as a result:

Tamron SP 70-200mm f2.8 Di VC USD versus competition - DxOMark

Note that the current Tammy 70-200 uses 23 lenses in 17 groups, and VR implementation of image stabilisation instead of Sigma's OS.

The Tammy is longer, has a love-it-or-hate-it AF/MF clutch, closer focus than the Sigma, higher macro magnification ratio, is 200g lighter, and is screwdrive while the Sigma has nice quiet HSM motors. The Tamron goes to f32, the Sigma to f22.

They do not match physically or optically.

If you have evidence - not guessing - that the 150-500mm lenses are also collaborations, we'd all like to see that! :-)

Let me see what I can dig up. Understand in both cases I was going by sight, but the similarities are strong.

OK, I found the new long range zooms by both Sigma and Tamron, both 150-600mm f/5-6.3. This comparison came from dpreview. There are a few differences, but there are some strong similarities as well. There are also a lot of blank spaces where some side by side comaprison would be vital. Check it out:

Since neither lens is for sale anymore maybe this would be better discussed outside the marketplace where others interested in this topic could participate.
