Leica Elmarit-R 28mm f2.8 converted to K mount (Leitax) ...

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Leica Elmarit-R 28mm f2.8 converted to K mount (Leitax)

Asking Price
440.00 $400 USD - Price Reduced

Item Location
Phoenix, Arizona (United States)

Item Description
I'v decided to part with my Leica Elmarit-R 28mm/f2.8 lens. I have several other 28mm lenses, and this one is just not getting used. I have found that I tend to like the Contax Zeiss and Pentax a bit better in terms of color, rendering and character - just a personal preference.

The lens was produced in 1972 (according to the serial number), so it is not new. It is also what is referred to as the 3-Cam version. That said, for its age it is in remarkably excellent condition - and I am trying to be on the conservative side. The glass appears to be in excellent condition (front and rear elements), no marks, scratches, mold, fungus, etc. For a lens this age, I can't say that there is no dust in the lens, but I really do not see any (the dust in the pictures is just on the surface - I live in Arizona). The body is also in excellent condition, no scratches, dings, mars, marks, scrapes, etc. The aperture blades are not oily and are snappy. The lens has been well cared for. I purchased it from another member here on the marketplace. The focus is smooth and well damped. The body construction is on equal to Pentax Taks - all metal and glass.

This lens has been converted from the Leica R mount to the Pentax K mount using the Leitax.com mount. The person I purchased the lens from had it converted by a camera shop up in Reno, NV.

Included in the purchase are the following:
  • 1 - Leica (Leitz) Elmarit-R 28mm f2.8 converted to K mount (Leitax.com)
  • 1 - Leica hood - original, the rectangular version that detaches and not permanently attached to the lens (later versions).
  • 1 - rear cap (what I received with the lens - third party K mount cap)
  • 1 - lens cap (what I received with the lens - third party lens cap)
  • 1 - Original Leica Box (serial numbers match)
  • 1 - Original Leica R mount kit (you can swap the K mount for the original R mount)
How I priced this lens. There are not that many of these lenses around that have been converted to the K mount. Looking at ebay (recent completed sales only), the Leica Elmarit-R 28mm f2.8 in the Leica R mount goes between $400 and $620. Same lens converted for the EOS mount goes for $650. Lenses with boxes and recently cleaned go for $800. The Leitax conversion mount goes for $100 and to have the conversion done professionally (Leitax will do it for an additional $100). Essentially you are not going to be able to replicate the price by purchasing another lens and converting it. With that I think that its valuable to keep it in the Pentax community since it has already been converted (a process that is fully reverseable). I am always open to offers.

I do landscapes - I am really not into product photography. Sorry for the dust on the lens body, its just dust - and this is Aridzona, and its dusty everywhere.

Thanks!! - I didn't realize this. I guess I need to rename them and upload them again. It would not let me upload the originals, since they would be duplicates.

The website will not allow the images to be uploaded - since they already exists - even with the image names changed.

I had that lens on my Contax slr, really nice lens! If I were you, I'd hold off till the full frame is out, and you'll have a much more valuable lens.

I assume this is a version 1 of this lens, vs version 2 given the date of manufacture, detachable hood and serial number.

Good Afternoon,

Yes, I do think that is a version 1. But not an Leica expert by any means. It's a wonderful lens, it is just not getting the use. This was the one Leica lens I could afford. My eyes are getting older, and now at 65, I am cutting back on my manual lenses. I am finding that when I go out its a choice between the 28's and the 31 Limited. The 31Ltd wins out.

Yes, Leica is a very expensive red dot much of the time. Very beautiful though. I have a couple of Voigtlanders I'll have to be content with.
