Item Description
For sale: Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX DC, asking price is $180 which includes free USPS priority shipping within continental USA and all paypal fees.

I've decided to sell my workhorse Sigma 18-50 constant f/2.8 zoom that has served me well over the years. The lens has a reassuringly sturdy, tank-like build quality as well as a nice constant f/2.8 aperture. It is one of the most compact, best built, and lightest f/2.8 "normal" zoom lens in its class. A significant upgrade from the kit lens, the larger aperture lets you take pictures in much dimmer light and the lens produces beautiful out-of-focus background blur (bokeh) that the DA 18-55 kit lens could never achieve.

The Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX has a 67mm filter size, metal mount, zoom ring lock switch (I never needed to use it because there is NO zoom creep), and reversible twist-on hood. The lens measures just 2.9 x 3.3" (74.1 x 84.1mm) and weighs only 15.7 oz (445g). The pictures it takes are sharp and contrasty, especially if stopped down a bit to f/4, but I've taken some images wide open at f/2.8 that are very usable and pleasing.

I have had a protective UV filter on the lens since the day I first acquired it (bought it used here on the Marketplace from another PF Member years ago). The glass is clean with no scratches and the aperture is snappy. The body does have some scuffs, normal wear and tear for the age of the lens, and one place on the back where the paint has peeled off a little but obviously has no affect on its performance (see pictures).

Sale includes the petal-style hood, front and rear lens caps, and original nylon carrying case. I don't have the box or paperwork, however.

Reason for selling: Last year, I bought a Pentax DA 16-45mm which I find I am using more often due to the slightly wider angle, slightly lighter weight, and "Pentax colors" that it provides. So my Sigma 18-50 sits unused. I have too many overlapping zooms and want to thin the herd a bit. (Of course my LBA wants me to keep all my lenses but my wife says otherwise! )

Thanks for the feedback-- yes, it is a reliable lens and deserves to be used. These days, though, I find that I usually reach for my DA 21, FA 35, or DA 16-45 more often...

Have you used this lens with your K-01 and if so, does it perform well? I'm looking for a faster zoom lens than my 18-135 to use for indoor shooting.

Yes, the Sigma 18-50 works well on my K-01, quick to focus, and the CDAF makes it very accurate. The lens is a little heavier than the 18-135, though, which makes it just slightly more unwieldly to use on the K-01 and it's non-existent grip. I tend to use my smaller DA and FA primes on my K-01 and save my bigger zooms for the K-50.
