Read all details on this one. Af adjust was insufficient for a previous buyer. Also he has listed as for parts / non-working so your ebay protection may be limited.

I am assuming the seller is the OP.

I am.

I don't know for sure if the lens is out of spec or not. I'm selling it with the disclaimer and "as is" because I don't like to deal with returns, and it is possible the lens would need calibrated.

I know when I went from my K-x to my K-30, the calibration for my fast lenses was very different (fast telephotos are where calibration problems are most evident), so I sent my K-30 with my Sigma lenses to Sigma headquarters in New York for re-calibration. I don't know if my K-x was the culprit, or if it was my K-30, or if that's just the nature of things when dealing with the inherent tolerances of mass-produced cameras and mass-produced lenses.

Anyway, I started the auction as a $1 no-reserve listing so people can choose how much they are comfortable paying for the lens in case they need to budget some extra for a calibration. I really don't have any idea how much it will sell for, but it will be interesting to see. The first time I sold it, it went for $1100. But as I said in the ad, the buyer said it needed a couple more clicks of AF adjustment on his body. I tend to suck at micro-adjusting AF and I hate doing it, so I usually send my lenses in for calibration anyway, so that way I know I'm not leaving any image quality on the table.

That makes sense. Thanks for the complete info. It is much less nerve wracking to deal with a known PF member than an unknown entity on FB. Particularly someone with a strong marketplace feedback like you. Sorry if I came across wrong.

No need to apologize! I don't think you said anything wrong or offensive.

FYI, this should have been posted in the Marketplace and I'm going to go ahead and move the thread for you. Since you originally listed the lens on PF and it failed to sell, the ebay link is OK

I never really had an opportunity to get out and shoot with this lens over the dreary and cold winter, so I didn't have much in the way of sample pics. I had just a few minutes after work yesterday before it got dark, so I grabbed the lens and hurried to a little park close to my house to see what it can do.

The sun was just about to slip below the horizon when I got to the park, so I didn't have much time and I had to use a higher ISO than I would have preferred for sample lens shots. Anyway, I was very pleased with how the lens performed. Accuracy was pretty much spot-on on my K-30, and the sharpness looks very good to me.

This is a new park with very little in the way of nature features or trees, and everything was still brown from the winter, so the shots I got aren't supposed to be anything special. But I think they still show that the lens is a good performer. You can click on each image to download the 100% un-cropped version. Please keep in mind that all pictures were shot hand-held with my (probably) less-than-perfect technique!

So the lens works perfectly on my camera in terms of AF, and the original owner also never had a problem with it. So I don't know if my first buyer was just unlucky with the calibration of his camera, or if he was doing something wrong, or if he had other reasons for returning the lens. But regardless, I'm not going to sell it a third time, so if you decide to bid on it, please be aware that with any fast telephoto lens there is a possibility of calibration issues, since you are dealing with such thin focal planes. If that turns out to be the case with your camera body, then it is definitely worth it to have the lens calibrated since it's such a great lens. But I'm not Costco or Amazon.com, so I'm not going to accept endless returns on a lens that has nothing wrong with it!

Nothing wrong with any of these pictures. It looks like someone is going to get a very nice lens.
