Pentax-M SMC 85MM F/2 - Up for sale is a compact portrait lens that is capable of outstanding pictures. I am selling because it is something that won't get a lot of use in my current bag.
I rated in fair condition, because of the glass itself. No fungus, but there are some coating scratches that are on the front end of the lens. A few of them are significant. I purchased it this way. If the light catches it right, without a hood, this will cause flaring. So it technically can be an issue. I shot probably 100 shots with it, without a hood, and once it flared and messed up the shot.
The exterior of the lens is in good condition, but certainly has some wear on it. The focus is pretty smooth, and the aperture clicks the way it should. Functionally, it is fine.
The first picture shows the scratches on the surface. The second shows the particular scratch that is through the SMC that has caused flair (1x out of 100). The third is showing the rear of the lens is clean. The fourth is of my youngest daughter and you can tell at F/3.5 it does some pretty magic, but yes, my daughter is cute, too!
What do I think of this lens? At F/4 it makes magic. Wide open it is improved greatly with a hood, but F/3.5 and F/4 it is pretty stellar. This is the second copy I've owned, and for a long time I had an attitude that if it wasn't awesome wide open it wasn't an awesome lens. After I got a hood for it the image quality improved wide open. Well, stop down a few times and this will prove what it is worth. I was very impressed by some shots that I got out of it. I will post a few of them with this auction. Also I will post pictures to show you the coating issue on the front of the lens.
