DA-J? What the heck is that supposed to mean?

The -J typically means no aperture ring. But now that I think of it, I can't think of a DA lens that does have one...

As far as I know, the "FA-J" moniker typically meant craptastic lenses made by Pentax. No other lens series had "-J" suffix.

Yeah, I had the same reaction. But that's how it appears to be listed at several places. Just checked the name on Pentax' website, doesn't show a J in the name. For those who have been around in the Pentax world since the lens originally came out, did it originally have that name?

If J signifies 'craptastic', maybe I ought to take out of the lens title then.

That is what I've heard about the FA-J series, too.

Perhaps my first explanation was confusing.

no other Pentax lens series ever had the "-J" suffix added. The only such case were the FA lenses.

No DA lens ever had an aperture ring, so judging by your train of thought, all DA lenses should be DA-J. Even the * models. DA-J* > that's an oxymoron.

The lens title was taken from other online stores; apparently somewhere along the line someone stuck the J in there for whatever reason, probably a typo, and it's got perpetuated. I was just wondering if perhaps, as the 16-45 seems to be one of the earlier DA lenses produced, that was originally in the name and then dropped--just pure tongue-in-cheek speculation on my part for curiosity's sake, nothing more.

I'll fix it in the OP.
