I feel as though this isn't the sharpest of the Zeiss offerings, but the rendering is peculiar and rather eccentric. Me personally I love this lens. But I can see some shooters scratching their heads with it too.

BUMP and ....

Readers of this ad hopefully will notice and understand the part mentioning "focus shift" (please read the ad in its entirety), inherent to this 85/1.4 Zeiss lens -- which is NOT a fault by the way.

... hence the "isn't the sharpest", as you mentioned, might be interpreted as a negative for potential buyers.

BUMP-y Time !

I view of the FF "teaser" announcement, this (lens) should interest people who are looking for exceptional quality.
I am now at a point to consider FAIR offers .... before I retire this ad for a while .... until the market picks up.

Cheers!

According to Zeiss' own sharpness ratings,
the 85/1.4 is as sharp as the 35/2 (good down to 3.6 micron pixel spacing),
better even than the (older) 28/2 and (new) 35/1.4 Distagons (3.9 microns).

If I didn't already have my own well-loved and well-used copy,
I'd be on this in an instant.

It's really sharp (stopped down) for landscapes, and gentler (wider open) for portraits.

Wish I could justify it.
Gorgeous lens when used on a 35mm format camera.

BUMP time !

@ Duplo: that would likely be one of the best lens to be used on this (upcoming) FF from Ricoh/Pentax.

I agree, I have shot it extensively in F mount and cannot recommend it enough.
I am not really shooting digital any more and do not really shoot 35mm format for anything but casual walk about stuff, thus it is not really a lens I would have any use for anymore, but tempting it is

BUMP !!

It is getting close to a point where I just might retire this ad for a while, until maybe when the "FF" camera comes out .

I bet you one thing: this will likely sell before the FF comes out and then lots of people will be sorry !
