Full Frame FA* 80-200 f/2.8 - recently CLA'd

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Full Frame FA* 80-200 f/2.8 - recently CLA'd

Asking Price
1,200.00 USD ---- This item is SOLD

Item Location
Mint Hill (United States)

Item Description
Have you got FULL FRAME FEVER? DO you want the D FA 70-200 f/2.8 but can't afford the $2300+? Is the wait for the 70-200 killing you?

Fear not, I have the antidote! The FA* 80-200 f/2.8 is nearly the same focal length, has the f/2.8 aperture and the same legendary quality as all the "*" lenses. On top of that, the 80-200 weighs about 500g (over 1lb!) less than the new D FA 70-200 f/2.8 which will be a lifesaver when you want to use it all day long. This is a fantastic lens that will not disappoint. Don't care about Full Frame? Do you wish you had an internal zoom f/2.8 60-250 that stayed the same length when you zoomed it? They don't exist but the 80-200 f/2.8 is a close match with equal sharpness and poise.

The lens is a stunning performer that has just recently had a full CLA (Clean, Lube, Align) from DCShooter. The glass is in top shape - looking like new. As far as I can tell there are no cleaning marks. I do not see any internal dust. The focusing mechanism and the zoom are butter smooth when on manual and work perfectly on power/auto. To be completely fair I set the condition to "good" because like most FA*'s the silver paint has worn away and there are minor scratches and blemishes (see pictures). This is a very nice looking lens even up close but don't expect "like new" perfection from the paint.

As a testament to the quality of this zoom I can tell you that I did a head to head shot for shot match up of this vs. my DA* 200 f/2.8 and could not tell the difference between them at 200mm even at f/2.8. In fact the DA* was more prone to purple fringing than the FA* - otherwise they were very similar.

I am including free shipping in the continental USA but I am willing to work with anyone outside the USA with good positive marketplace feedback.

All I have to say is that you better bring this lens on the 7th if it hasn't sold by then....

LOL - I will plan to do so, but I hope it has sold before then. If you want to see it sooner PM me and maybe we can meet in the middle somewhere. It was nice before the CLA - but Oh my GOODNESS is this smooth and buttery now!

The FA* 80-200/2.8 is a great lens -- simply put, it "paints" in gorgeous colors. I had one for several years (until recently, when I replaced it with an FA* 200/2.8, because I usually ended up using the 80-200 at 200, and I can't lug such a heavy zoom around anymore), and it was my preferred early morn or late afternoon/evening birding lens for quite some time (and, yes, I know 200mm is a bit short for most birding, but f/5.6 (as an example of a longer lens aperture) is a bit dim for dim light shooting, too). Anyhoo, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it...

You, Sir, are an evil man. I say that with the best of intentions.

this is a beauty. Reminds me of a poem by Kipling

We were taken from the ore-bed and the mine,
We were melted in the furnace and the pit—
We were cast and wrought and hammered to design,
We were cut and filed and tooled and gauged to fit.
Some water, coal, and oil is all we ask,
And a thousandth of an inch to give us play:
And now, if you will set us to our task,
We will serve you four and twenty hours a day!
...

Nice touch (and certainly befitting the FA* 80-200/2.8), debakarma.

I'm afraid I have two kids and if she's of marrying age I'm already taken and don't plan to annoy my wife with another! LOL

I have sad news - the lens has a couple of offers already in and I have tentatively accepted one. This lens may soon depart my house.
