This is a very extremely rare lens that was only available in Japan. It was made by Pentax in 1996/97 for Ricoh's 60th anniversary.
Considering the relationship between the two companies then and now, I can only find this amusing and ironic. Those were the days when Ricoh was a competitor in the K-mount market (perhaps the last one standing - when did Chinon bow out?) One good turn deserves another? You honoured us with your lens; we honour you by saving your doooooomed!(TM) hides from Hoya? Far-fetched, but it would make for a neat urban myth!

I begin to think there was far more of a shared history between Ricoh and Pentax than many of us are aware of, and that's why Ricoh saved Pentax...

I think despite Pentax denying Ricoh the newer mount specifications they likely kept a reasonable business relationship in that if one needed something designed that the other was good at they could hire the other to design and make it for them. It could well have been that Ricoh had closed its lens divisions by '96/97 and needed another company to make this limited edition anniversary special lens.

I would like to see the alternative universe in which Ricoh continued producing single-lens reflex cameras, or to be a fly on the wall at the meeting at which they decided to stop. Perhaps for them, digital had "Here be dragons" written all over it (justified in the end, given what happened to Contax and almost happened to Pentax) and they decided that if this was the future of SLR (which in the end it was), they were better off being out of it full-stop rather than behind the eight-ball. If so, they bowed out of that market on their own terms with a pretty good history of building decent and well-featured SLR cameras. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled lens selling...
