Pentax 60-250 AS IS

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax 60-250 AS IS

Asking Price
250.00 USD

Item Location
Tucson (United States)

Item Description
Once brilliant and nearly pristine 60-250 with box, caps, case and hood.

It fell a few feet less than two weeks after I acquired it and a lens element got out of whack so the lens gives a beautiful, dreamy effect wide open, but is acceptably sharp when stopped down to F8.

Precision says it is beyond economic repair, but if someone knows someone in Japan, I imagine it has to be salvageable, otherwise it can be used for parts or used as is at F8 ( search for posts by me and one can see examples of it before and after, or Be patient and I will update the listing with pics)

Precision sent the lens back to me with the front end misaligned, so the hood goes on crooked, but it wasn't worth sending back).

I'm looking to sell this for parts or to use at F8, or for a dreamy portrait lens. I would also trade for a Pentax AF540 or similar flash.

I'm not expecting much, but figured it is worth a shot.

Yes indeed I got it from you. It hurts because it was such an amazing lens

Here are some photos from today, very sharp at F8, dreamy at 4 and 5.6 somewhere between, but closer to dreamy.

I've got the same lens without the hood and the tripod collar. If you would be interested in selling those only, PM me please.

Oh man, hold on to it - that second picture with sharply focused, squinting Little Miss and distant background has lovely bokeh and fantastic 3D pop (as does the third). You've got the perfect telephoto portrait lens. RENT IT OUT AS SUCH. Then buy a new one when it's paid for itself.

If I did more portraiture, I do think this lens could be really special! Also, if the rumor is true about Ricoh setting up a factory repair and getting rid of precision, there could be hope for a fix. If nobody jumps at this price, I will just keep it and experiment with it.

If it does eventually go for a fix at a decent Ricoh Pentax repair facility it would be worth knowing exactly what was knocked out of kilter and where, so it could be duplicated deliberately. What you have here is the impossible combination of beautiful bokeh with the lens stopped down far enough to keep the entire portrait subject sharp. As a portrait photographer, you couldn't ask for better!

If nothing else, some Lomographer who wants an AF variation on a Petzval lens should wander in eventually - they'll take it off your hands for sure.

Check the KEH lens repair service. If I didn't already have it I'd be tempted to get it then send it to them.

I have a vague recollection that he made inquiry, but they said it was probably beyond them and they would send it to Precision...

You are correct, although I'm still tempted. I think precision just replaces parts and don't really fix things. My local repair and KEH both said Precision is the only place that has the software to align the lenses

Sadly.
