Promaster AF 28-200mm zoom

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Promaster AF 28-200mm zoom

Asking Price
65.00 USD

Item Location
Ohio (United States)

Item Description
Promaster AF Aspherical LD (IF) 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 lens
This compact auto focus zoom lens is as good as the Pentax kit lens but with better focal range. Itís a great all-purpose lens.1:4 close focus ratio, 72mm filter size. This lens has been used regularly since I purchased it in 2001 and continues to take great photos, including macro, wide angle, telephoto, and portraits. It has clean glass elements, dry blades and barrel. Always well cared for, looks virtually brand new with zero external wear, because it was always kept clean and dry and covered with a clear/UV filter to protect the front element. I am selling it only because my husband gifted me a weatherproof lens in this range for my birthday. Its wide range makes traveling easy. A great vacation lens! I used it on our trip to the Smokys this past December and got lovely pictures as always. Front and rear lens caps, lens hood and original box is included. $65.00 firm, which includes U.S. shipping and PayPal fees.

This is a Promaster 28-200mm lens. It is a re-badged Tamron. I have the Tamron version of this lens, the Promaster version of the next model, and a Tamron version of the model after that. The Promaster is as good as the Tamrons. Great to see you have the hood.

Thanks for catching that, Tim. I see you are a fellow Daytonian as well as Pentaxian! ~Angie

The cardinal is 85% crop from 200mm tele--still great quality at that

I know Lightroom always tags it as an FA 28-200. Its not a super fast lens but it is a good copy of the lens that it is. I vacillate on selling it daily, but it is redundant now that I have the 18-250. I hope maybe it will make a good travel lens for someone on a budget, which is how I started with it.

I'm currently using the FA 28-200mm as an all purpose lens on the K-1 and its great for that. This being practically the same lens I can recommend it to any K-1 owner who wants a lens to throw on when they're out for a walk or leisure shooting.

The exif for the cardinal shot is reporting 300mm.... Does this lens misreport the focal length sometimes? (The exif for second image is 200mm)

Because it was taken with an APS-C crop sensor camera, EXIF reports focal length with the crop factor...it always has done that, so that is my best guess why

Thanks! If I didn't have the 18-250 now, making it redundant, I wouldn't be selling. Its a good copy at a fair price.

Interesting, just because I've never seen that before... I've only ever seen exif showing the actual FL, then sometimes in addition showing the effective 35mm FL... Here in the cardinal shot exif, it's showing 450mm as the 35mm FL... In the owl shot exif, it does report 200mm as the FL and 300mm as the 35mm FL... At first I thought it was somethng Paint Shop Pro does, when I noticed it in the exif, but then discovered that both images were edited with the same version of that app... Go figure!
