[SOLD] FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro, FA 50mm f/1.7

.

LBA giveth, and LBA taketh away.

In the endless quest to fund new purchases, I often have to.... sacrifice.

Pentax FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro.............................(SOLD)

Pentax FA 50mm f/1.7......................................$195 + shipping

The FA 50 f/2.8 Macro is not the D-FA 50 f/2.8 Macro - it's the earlier, more
rare, and by almost all reports, better, sharper version. It's been called
Pentax's sharpest lens, along with the 200 Macro, and it's the second sharpest
lens I've ever used. It's certainly the sharpest Pentax 50mm I've ever used...
and I've about used them all.

It's a 1:1 macro, of course, and doubles nicely as a standard 'normal'
for portraiture, etc, although its so bleeding sharp, you may want to
warn your subject that their pores will be under scrutiny.

I have the Vivitar S1 105mm macro, and now the DA 35ltd Macro, so the
FA 50 2.8 is taking one for the team. Now it gets to make another
Pentaxian a happy 1:1 macro camper.

The FA 50 1.7 is simply a terrific lens, and is sharper than the FA 50 1.4 at
f/1.7 & f/2 (after that they kinda even out.) Because of it's high-aperture
sharpness, this lens can become your go-to low-light AF portrait lens.
It renders colors beautifully and accurately, and can deliver bokeh
that looks like a Monet.

Both of these lenses are getting rarer, and keep in mind that both will shine
when the mythical FF body arrives. (note I said "when", not "if" )

I'll post some shots taken by each lens below, and will put some shots
of the lenses themselves in the thread a bit later also.

Where were these a month ago??? I just bought an FA 50mm 1.7 and had one hella time finding it. Took over a month to locate one as nobody is giving them up.

I can't believe you're selling these. Next time I need a lens, I'll check with you. You always seem to be liquidating just what I'm looking for, but a few days late...

That 50mm 2.8 macro lens really sings. Wish I had money for it. Every aspect of its rendering is perfect in my eye - Sharpness, color rendition, contrast, smooth bokeh.... Beautiful stuff & you really bring out the best in it Jay. The smooth bokeh could make it a just about perfect portrait lens on a digital (75mm equivalent), with the added versatility of macro capability.

Hi bruloup! Grey cat thread is a great idea, start one, I'll be there!

I ordered the DA 12-24, and am trying to talk myself out of (or into?!) another lens
who's name shall not be mentioned at this time. (out of keyboard, out of mind.)

It's somewhat agonizing to sell lenses like this, but it also makes me feel better in
a way - freeing up cash to buy something else is liberating, and makes me feel like
the lenses will be used more often by someone else.

But then half the time I feel sellers remorse too, especially when people like you
and Simon (Super Tak 85 f/1.9) post shots taken with 'my' old lens that are better
than the ones I took

Hope you like the Super Tak & Viv's (thought you should get them today?), and
hang on to that Pentax adapter, I think they may be getting rarer.

FA 50 f/1.7 still available

.

This lens is getting harder to find, and is pretty special - if you don't have a fast
50, or even of you do, this should be your low-light lens.

Shots taken with it:

The following three were at f/1.7 (wide open):

The rest are various apertures:

f/8

f/2.0

#7 all - time!

.

Mike Johnston (Luminous Landscape, The Online Photographer) has rated
50mm lenses from all manufacturers in this order:

QuoteQuote:
1. Leica 50mm ƒ/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH (provisional)

2. Olympus Zuiko 50mm ƒ/2 Macro

3. Pentax 50mm ƒ/1.4 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar (M42 screwmount)

4. Konica M-Hexanon 50mm ƒ/2

5. Leica 50mm ƒ/1.4 Summilux-R (55mm filter thread—I don't like the newer one as well, although it measures better in several respects)

6. Canon EF 50mm ƒ/1.4

7. Pentax A/M/F/FA 50mm ƒ/1.7

8. Pentax A/F/FA 50mm ƒ/1.4

9. Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.2 AIS

10. Leica 7-element Dual-Range Summicron-M

"Great 50mm Lenses"

Anyone want to own #7, in AF flavor?

Jsherman...your photo of the utensils and the salt/pepper shakers immediately made me think of a parent keeping watch over their children. I think it's the angles of the utensils in the can that give it it's affect. Doesn't look like you had tried to do this, but I do like it.

...I may have to "borrow" the idea. Hope that's OK?!?

c[_],

I see what you mean! Of course, borrow away. It was unintentional, anyway.

I wonder if you're an artist, because that's the kind of thing an artist would see in that shot, and then be inspired to expand on it.

Of course, if you buy the lens, you could recreate it even more accurately!
