DA 14mm F2.8

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
DA 14mm F2.8

Asking Price
300.00 USD

Item Location
Vancouver, BC (Canada)

Item Description
A WONDERFUL ultra wide angle lens for exploring the 'near-far dichotomy'. This lens got me into several prestigious online galleries with my shot of the interior of North Lonsdale United Church. Wonderful, contrasty, sharp, depth of field from .5 of a foot to infinity at F8. A VERY misunderstood lens, but once you get it, absolutely wonderful. This was the lens I liked best. For landscapes, interior, and architectural shots, it is fabulous. It DOES have a very teeny crack in the plastic distance scale window, clearly visible in the second shot, which in no way affects the performance of the lens. I never got it fixed because it didn't bug me that much; pleaser don't bid on it if you don't like this.

PLEASE NOTE: These is NOT a collector's item, meticulous, pristine sample of this lens. All of my lenses for sale have seen a lot of use, professional and otherwise. These have hiked hundreds and hundreds of miles through the mountains with me. They have been treated VERY well, however, and are mechanically and optically perfect, but there are marks, scuffs, dings, and such on the bodies and hood of these lenses. If you are looking for pristine, collector's item lenses that are in immaculate shape, PLEASE LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. These have been my professional photographic tools for many years, they have been treated with respect, and I would LOVE for them to go to a good home where they are being used and loved by an avid photographer, not sitting on a shelf. All of the photographs are unretouched, and I have not run any way tried to hide any imperfections. They are all there; just blow up the photo.

This is a great lens for shooting indoors. Sharper than the DA 15 at F4. Here's my quick take on it. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/320703-impressed-da-14-a.html

I would beg to differ with Driline on the sharper than DA 15mm statement, however I actually replaced the DA 15mm I had with this and did not regret it. A little wider, a lot brighter, still has great metal body, and not that big. Would highly recommend this lens to anyone shooting wide in low light. Works great on K-01 too

JamesK8752 says otherwise. I gotta believe him since he offers proof

What do you mean by brighter?

That's such a beautiful picture inside the church. Such clarity in warm soft light. A credit not only to the lens but also to the photographer who composed and shot it. Well done!

Thank you SO much

It was impossible to look into the viewfinder, as the camera was butt-up against a wall. I set it on F8, hyperlocal focussing, and did mirror lock-up. I had to manually adjust everything, take the camera carefully off the tripod, readjust, recompose, guessing each time. It took me over an hour to set that shot up, using rulers to compose the candles carefully, and at the end of it I was sweating from crouching down in a very awkward position trying to get it.

Then, 27 layers of Photoshop adjustments later...it got me in the Pentax Exclusive gallery, as well as Pentax' own artists gallery. None of my FA* or F* lenses ever gave me a shot that did, but this one did.

Love this lens, but I'm going all in on APSC zooms in a travel kit for old backs: 12-24, 16-85, 60-250, teleconverter.

This lens is FABULOUS.

Cheers,
Cameron

Those are some great zooms. The 16-85 being a consumer lens is the only one I'd not be sure about but the rest are stellar. I wonder if you thought about the new D FA 24-70 F2.8 as a replacement for the DA 16-85. I'm not sure how much difference the image quality is between the two?
