The GP-S has a smaller diameter base of 2 1/16 inches, therefore excellent for use with travel tripods or monopods. The base is designed to fits both 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 thread tripods. Astro-, macro- and timelapse photograpgy usally require precise adjustment, therefore ballhead in general doesn't fit well here. Acratech design virtues are more in weight and agility. I used this ballhead mainly on monpod for sport & performace.
