Hey Paul,

This would be the perfect companion for your 500mm lens, sort of like "big brother-little brother", and since this is the longest lens Pentax ever made yours would be bigger than everyone!

What about the Pentax A*1200mm F/8

If it's still available at the end of October I would be interested in it.

I feel for you..... when asked what was the best investment I'd made in my life..... I normally answer "the vasectomy"

Must admit, I'm tempted with this lens.... but it would attract import duties this end.

Heah, the return on that was 100:1

I don't regret the money in any way. Fine young man and he makes her happy. mrs. monochrome and I discussed an amount and we were pleased to write them a check* for them to do as they wish - but I won't be buying this lens.

* in that regard I have 'paid for' the wedding already.

What about the Pentax A*1200mm F/8
The K1000/8 is physically longer (738mm) than the A1200/8 (684mm), but the K100/8 does not weight as much.

There is a lot of empty metal tubing in the K1000/8, so it looks much heavier than it really is.

Phil.

PS Good luck with the sale Murray!

Beat me too it. Longest refers to length not focal length. Don't forget this monster when thinking focal length:

Let's see, on the Q this would be equivalent to 5500mm. Hmmmm, my Q has been rather lonely lately.

You could always cut it down... to fit the average bazooka.

Good luck with your sale.

This is super tempting...there will be a total solar eclipse next August visible in the US and this would be a great lens to have

The center line of the eclipse path passes about 30 minutes drive time SW of my house.

If you mounted this lens to a Q and sent it into orbit it would be a spy satellite.

I have a 400 and it is a monster. I can only imagine how huge this thing is. If I had space for it I would buy it.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax 1000mm F8.0 Lens

Asking Price
775.00 USD (Price change from $825)

Item Location
Coquitlam, BC (Canada)

Item Description
This is one of the “legendary” Pentax K mount lenses and is aptly named the “Black Dragon”, although in this case it is in disguise .

SMC Pentax 1000mm F8 Reviews - K Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

This lens is clean cosmetically and functions well. I used it for a specialized application and had it covered with a custom LensCoat cover set Pentax Covers - LensCoat so that it would maintain its’ “collectors” value. It has original front and rear caps as well as a camo "snoot" front cover.

I have since acquired an SMC Pentax-M*67 800mm F6.7 ED (IF) with a matched 1.4X Extender, so this one is looking for a new home.

With all lenses of this size it requires a very sturdy tripod and good “long lens” technique.

The lens is 11 pounds, but with the case and packing it will weigh slightly more than 20 pounds. I will provide a quote for shipping.
