Item Description
Ah, the mirror super-tele... what a strange and wonderful beast! This is one of the best ever available for Pentax (far better than those cheap "new" ones on Amazon), with only the Tamron adaptall being a smidge better. The difference is that this mirror lens has a dedicate K-mount.
Focus is smooth and easy, and the results are very good for this type of lens (mirror lenses work like a Cassegrain telescope, with two convex and concave mirrors focusing the scene into an image circle - the result is a 500mm effective focal length in a much smaller tube). The typical "donut bokeh" of this lens design is present, but also the complete lack of chromatic aberrations that goes along with it.
This Tokina includes glass filters (intended for film use) that screw into the back of the lens, and all are included. In fact, everything is here as if you picked this off a shelf in 1984, from the faux-leather snap case to the filter wallet down to the Tokina lens-cleaning cloth!
Because many people might not be familiar with a 500mm lens the size of a softball, I've included some hand-held sample shots below.
