added some pics of the lens and its not the DG version of the lens but it is a 1:1 focus. Anyone intrested the guy backed out. evidently this not the latest version of the lens so as a result I will lower the price down to $280.00

What does DG mean? Does it make the new version better?

I have no idea to be honest and the sigma website has no additional information posted there. my guess is it may be a coating on the lens but again thats a guess here

some pics all hand held so not what the lens can really do i am sure

I agree. I'd be after it if I hadn't ordered one the day before. The prices on new ones have gone up at least $50 in the past 4 or 5 weeks. For example Adorama had it for 359 a month ago and now its 409.

DG means it is designed for digital cameras.

Both versions are FF and can be used on film or digital. The EX had improved optical design with floating mechanism to control aberrations and coatings as well. The DG supposedly is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down flare and ghost caused by digital SLR cameras.

Thing that I don't quite understand is that when I read about the EX designation only, it already does this. I wonder if there is really any difference and Sigma forgot to emphasize the digital performance in original literature with the the EX version.

Edit: If the lens wasn't full format, it would be designated as EX DC rather than EX DG.
