S-M-C Takumar 85mm f/1.8 M42, clean, sharp

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
S-M-C Takumar 85mm f/1.8 M42, clean, sharp

Asking Price
300.00 USD

Item Location
Concord, CA (United States)

Item Description
This is the S-M-C Takumar 85mm f/1.8 in M42(screw) mount. M42 adapter ring not included but readily available elsewhere.

A brilliant short telephoto lens, perfect for head & shoulders portraits, artsy bokeh, and general use. This is a clean copy with no issues. A few tiny dust specks inside, but no biggie. Clean aperture blades, snappy. Silky smooth focus ring as per usual for a Takumar.

This lens has the original pin configuration, that is, not fixed in the up position, but it is a 10 minute procedure if you choose to do it.

Includes original "HONEYWELL PENTAX" lens cap and a hard leather snap case (not pictured) here.

I bought it thinking I was going to switch to K-1, but have decided to stick with my crop and the FA77.

In this condition, $325 is a fair price, but the first $300 takes it!

I love this lens, one of the few I don't expect to replace any time soon.

I'm surprised this is still here considering this lens is quite rare and for this price. I guess most people are moving away from old school style lenses toward all AF. I own a copy of this lens and even though it takes lots of practice especially when you're photographing children the results can be sublime. One of my favorite lenses that I don't think I'll ever sell. Check some of my examples at Arkadiusz (Erik) Niedzwiecki | Flickr

I own the K85/1.8, which is the same lens design with a K-mount, as well as the earlier Auto Takumar 85/1.8 (5/4) design. 35mm film camera users and K-1 owners should be all over this lens at this price. It (my K version) produces a rare breed of classic painterly image - sharp subject with beautiful OOF background areas for portraits, especially B&W, and (usually) flowers.

Why limit it? I've made great use of this lens on a NEX-6.

Pentax also has crop sensor cameras, I hear? The point is that ~130mm field of view is still useful.

I've had this lens in my kit since 1973. I can't imagine being out and about without it.
